DESCRIPTION:Black History Month highlights the important progress made by the African-American community. Join Connext for a coffee talk with community leaders about Black History Month and how Black history impacts our lives\, how we celebrate Black History month\, and time to ask community leaders questions.\n\n\n\nTo continue the conversation\, we encourage you to also register for the Connext Happy Hour: Black History Month Conversations occurring on Thursday\, February 25th from 4 - 5 PM.\n\nPresenters\n\n\n\nKrishna Lee was born and raised in Kansas City\, MO. She is a lifelong athlete and currently serves as the Athletics Director at Kansas City Parks & Recreation. She earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a master's degree in Sport Psychology from the University of Missouri. Lee serves as a board member for WIN for KC and the Mizzou Letter Winners Club. She is a soon to be graduate of the Metzler Mentor Program through the Mid-America LGBT Chamber of Commerce and is Co-Chair of the newly developed Committee on Race and Social Equity for Kansas City Parks & Recreation.\n\n\n\n\n\nMelanie Miller is the Chief Executive Officer for Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey (KCFAA). Miller has been heavily involved in the philanthropic realm and currently serves on the board for the Charlotte Street Foundation and is Co-Chair of the Arts Facet for the Greater Kansas City (MO) Links\, Incorporated. With more than 20 years of experience in strategic leadership\, Miller has vast tactical knowledge in finance\, operations\, and multi-level team management. Ms. Miller received her B.S. Degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an MBA from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.\n\n\n\n\n\nCouncilwoman Ryana Parks-Shaw is a former union member\, successful small business owner\, and long-time healthcare executive. Outside of her career in healthcare\, Ryana worked to reduce unemployment as an Eastern Jackson County Workforce Development Board member and is a volunteer with the American Heart Association\, National Alliance for Mental Illness\, and the Alzheimer's Association.
