SUMMARY:TNC Community holds 5K adventure race\; major fundraiser on June 16
DESCRIPTION:The 2018 Missouri state budget that went into effect on July 1\, 2017 and included a total of $250 million in funding cuts which presents serious repercussions for Missourians with disabilities and TNC Community.\n\n \n\nOn Saturday\, June 16 TNC Community hopes to lessen the impact of that funding cut by hosting the Kansas City Dirty Duo 5K\; Kansas City's first adventure race. The event will take place at 8 a.m. on the scenic nature trails of Unity Village in Lee's Summit\, MO and will be hosted by KMBC-9 First Alert Meteorologist\, Neville Miller. \n\n \n\nA mud run that attracts nearly 300 participants and onlookers\, the Dirty Duo 5K includes several mystery obstacles\, vendor demonstrations\, live entertainment\, food and fun in a unique spectacle that concludes with a huge mud pit party at the end of the race.\n\n \n\n"The Kansas City Dirty Duo 5K serves as the largest fundraiser for TNC Community\," says James Landrum\, TNC Community Executive Director. \n\n\n\n"We're required to do more with less\," adds Landrum. "We can't sacrifice the high level of quality care individuals and families are accustomed to receiving. With your continued support we can ensure this 3% cut lessens the impact on individuals receiving services from TNC Community.\n\n \n\nTNC Community works as the region's foremost provider of high-quality services to persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities. All proceeds from the Kansas City Dirty Duo 5K will go directly toward the programming provided by TNC.\n\n \n\n"We have built quite a following in the years that we've hosted the adventure race. It's a timed race\, but you don't have to be the fastest runner or the highest jumper. This is a fun\, family-friendly event that's open to all ages and ability levels." adds Landrum.\n\n\n\nLast year's Dirty Duo has attracted racers from ages 75 to seven and as far away as Naples\, FL. Participants are encouraged to don costumes. Awards will be given to the best costume group and duo as well as the top male and female finishers. All participants will receive a customized finishers medal and KC Dirty Duo 5K commemorative t-shirt.\n\n\n\nRegistration is still open and on-site registration will be accepted the day of the event.
