Working with Clients with Diminished Capacity – What Should I Do?
As we age, we sometimes become forgetful. Is it a one-time event or is it a foretelling of what’s to come? As individuals age, we may notice their ability to process information may not be quite the same as it used to be. When is it just being forgetful, and when is it a question of “capacity?” If it is our first meeting with an individual, what should we do if we think there is a question of capacity? Are there signs we should look for? Is there a question of confidentiality? This panel of experienced professionals will discuss real life scenarios and how they have worked through difficult situations involving individuals with diminished capacity. Take Aways: - Identifying signs of diminished capacity of individuals - Understanding how to navigate a successful donor/client relationship when diminished capacity is involved - Understanding confidentiality rules for professional disciplines - Understanding reporting requirements for elder abuse
