We are looking for someone with expertise in:

KC Healthy Kids (KCHK), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is seeking a board member to provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. If you have an interest in children’s health, policy and/or social justice, we would love to hear from you! We are looking for a passionate individual with a background in business, government, philanthropy, and/or the non-profit sector to join our board.  It is important that applicants hold a commitment to and understanding of KC Healthy Kid’s beneficiaries, preferably based on experience. If you are enthusiastic about shaping policies that improve our food system and physical surroundings for youth, contact us today!

What is the designated term for board service?

KCHK Board Members serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term.

How often does the board meet?

KCHK Board meetings are held six times per year; committee meetings are held 4 times per year.

What personal or financial contribution is expected of each board member?

KCHK Board Members are expected to:
  • Consider KC Healthy Kids a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority
  • Participate in KC Healthy Kids fundraising, awareness-building and special events
  • Assist with fundraising efforts by arranging introductions, signing letters to friends and associates and otherwise opening doors to funding sources
Any additional board expectations:

 KCHK Board Members are expected to:
  • Serve as an advisor to the President and assist with strategic plan development and implementation
  • Review outcomes and metrics to assess for impact and performance
  • Approve annual budget, audit reports and material business decisions
  • Assist the President and Board Chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
  • Serve on committees or task forces and take on special assignments
  • Represent KC Healthy Kids to stakeholders, acting as an agency ambassador
  • Ensure KC Healthy Kid’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities served
