Legal Counsel to Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity - Volunteer Basis

Offer Valid: 08/18/2020 - 01/31/2021
Provide volunteer legal counsel to local Habitat for Humanity
Volunteer needed to provide legal counsel to Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity on an as-needed basis

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION:  Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity (THHFH) in Eastern Jackson County, MO is seeking the commitment of a professional volunteer(s) qualified to provide general legal counsel as may be required from time to time, and on an on-going basis.  This position is ideal for any legal professional that shares Habitat for Humanity’s passion for helping lower-income households and neighborhoods achieve strength, stability, and self-reliance through homeownership.  This position does not require or include an appointment to THHFH’s Board of Directors; however, an opportunity to serve as a Director of the Board may be made available in the future for interested candidates that are residents of Jackson County, MO.  As a developer of real estate and affordable housing, a mortgage lender, and a nonprofit service provider, THHFH requires legal counsel that is generally familiar with laws pertaining to real estate contracts, construction contracts, vendor agreements, mortgage lending, employment law, nonprofit governance, and business liability.  Our most immediate need is for review and maintenance of certain policies, agreements, purchase contracts, and mortgage loan documents pertaining to its affordable homeownership program.   THHFH’s President/CEO has decision-making authority for the organization on most matters and will serve as the volunteer’s primary contact.

PROJECT PERIOD:
Ongoing, as-needed.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE:
Minimum three years of experience in business law, preferably including work in the areas of real estate and contract law
