Veterans Support

Position Description: Veteran Support Volunteer Position 


Position Summary: This unique volunteer position works directly with Veterans in need. Because of the sensitive nature of this position, an interview, orientation, and a trial period are required 



  • Must be able to work two consecutive days every week. 

  • Must be able to commit to a full work day (8:30am – 5:00pm). 

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook 4. 

  • Must have proficient computer skills. 

  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.  

  • Must be proficient in performing data entry, operating office equipment, and paying attention to detail.  


Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Create a positive and welcoming atmosphere and environment.  

  • Become knowledgeable in the services offered on site and the resources we offer.  

  • Be prepared and willing to listen to the vets and provide what services we can to meet their needs.  

  • Ensure that front desk area and lobby are clean and organized. 

  • Process all veteran applications for Basic Services.  

  • Ensure that all applicants meet the required guidelines – That they have taken an oath to service and can provide proof of service.  

  • Create bus passes. 

  • Determine if vet is eligible to receive pantry items, i.e. make sure that they haven’t already received the allotted three per month.  

  • Sort and distribute mail. 

  • Answer and screen phone calls for Headquarters and the Outreach Center. Handle calls when able and email messages to the appropriate staff. 

  • Assemble and stock snack packs, food boxes, and hygiene packs when needed.  

  • Schedule in-house appointments as well as appointments for visiting agencies.  

  • Restock water, snacks, and trinkets in the lobby.
