BACKGROUND
The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation was established in the mid-1960s by the late entrepreneur and philanthropist Ewing Marion Kauffman. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, the Kauffman Foundation is among the largest foundations in the United States with an asset base of approximately $2 billion.
 
The Foundation’s vision is to foster "a society of economically independent individuals who are engaged citizens, contributing to the improvement of their communities." In service of this vision, we focus our grant making and operations on two areas—education and entrepreneurship—which our founder, Ewing Kauffman, saw as two ends of a continuum. A quality education is the foundation for self-sufficiency, preparing young people for success in college and in life. Many young adults will work in businesses started by entrepreneurs. Some will become entrepreneurs themselves, providing jobs and wealth for society.

To help individuals attain economic independence by advancing educational achievement and entrepreneurial success, consistent with the aspirations of our founder, Ewing Marion Kauffman.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position reports to the Real World Learning (RWL) Education Team and also provides executive level and project management support to the team. 
 
Specific Responsibilities include:
 
Administrative support
  • Assist RWL leaders with complex administrative tasks, including calendar management, event planning and coordination of meetings and presentations, materials preparation & distribution, expense submission and complex travel arrangements.
  • Plan and execute meetings and events, including assembling agendas, preparing and distributing briefing documents, capturing notes, and formulating post-meeting action items.
  • Assist with development and monitoring of communications to address various stakeholder needs (dashboards, reports, blog posts, etc.).
  • Assist with Board material preparation – formatting, editing, and finalization.
  • Act as a liaison between the RWL team and others, e.g., the Foundation, KC Metro Superintendents, KC Rising, KC Chamber, multiple business partners, legislators, and other community leaders.
  • Process invoices and expenses through Concur and Fluxx.
  • Anticipate executive and administrative support needs and pro-actively make recommendations for assistance where needed, supporting the operations of a high-performing department.
 
 
Project Management
  • Support day-to-day management of projects including activity scheduling and coordination, stakeholder communication, identification and resolution of issues and interdependencies with other Foundation efforts.
  • Maintain project plan and process documentation, including weekly and monthly reporting of accomplishments, risks, and key milestones.
  • Collaborate effectively with partners to accomplish various tasks and projects by communicating goals and objectives to others and ensuring that solutions and outcomes address leader and Foundation objectives.
  • Assist RWL leaders in identifying and resolving issues to ensure strong relationships and project success.
  • Identify new processes and practices to continually improve team effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Provide support as needed to inform decisions and ensure responsive, smooth execution.
  • Document, maintain and implement quality control and other internal processes.
  • Act as a liaison between the RWL team and others, e.g., the Foundation, KC Metro Superintendents, KC Rising, KC Chamber, multiple business partners, legislators, and other community leaders.
  • In coordination with the RWL Executive Team, serve as the primary owner of the departmental budget and report on progress toward the department’s projected spend for the calendar year.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
Education:  Bachelor’s degree preferred but would consider an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates possession of core competencies.
 
Work Experience: Minimum five years proven experience in executive level administrative or program support positions with progressively increasing responsibility.
 
Travel: This position requires no business travel.

  • Has a solid understanding of the content, processes, deliverables and overall objectives of the Foundation’s initiatives in order to act as an ambassador of the Foundation.
  • Proficient to advanced skillset with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Has at least four years of experience using project management software, e.g., Visio, Teamwork.
  • Working knowledge of social media: Twitter, Face Book, LinkedIn, etc.
