Tissue Services Support Technician

The Tissue Services Support Technician is responsible for providing support related to the recovery of tissues and corneas for transplantation. We are seeking candidates who have a background as a Unit Clerk/Secretary, Medical Assistant/Receptionist, Patient Access Specialist/Representative, Scheduling Coordinator, Logistics Specialist or Sterile Processing Technician. The shifts available for this position are as follows: Sunday - Tuesday 6am-6pm, Sunday - Tuesday 6pm-6am, Wednesday - Friday 6am-6pm and Wednesday - Friday 6pm-6am with every other Saturday on-call during designated shift time. 
 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 
TISSUE

 

  1. Responsible for support duties associated with recovery suite operations including, but not limited to: check-in and release of tissue donors, packing tissue for shipment, managing incoming and outgoing shipments, transport of blood samples to the laboratory, data entry, scanning, answering phones, cleaning of rooms and insturments, verifying billing, circulating for team in operating room, etc.
  2. Basic knowledge of federal, state and industry laws/regulations related to tissue practices including those of all tissue processors, AATB, OSHA, EBAA and FDA.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal MTN staff, hospital staff, processing partners, funeral homes and others involved in the donation process.
  4. Ability to conduct appropriate face-to-face interactions with donor families, if needed.
  5. Basic knowledge of the inter-relationships of departments and services provided by MTN.
  6. Skill in time management and team coordination. 
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 
  1. Associates degree, or equivalent knowledge and skill with a minimum of one-year related work experience required.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Ability to work a minimum of 36 hours per week, and 12 hour call shift every other Saturday, participate in rotation holiday on-call schedule, and may be required to assist with on-call department coverage.  Required to work for extended periods of time with few breaks.
  3. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  4. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy.  Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.  Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air.
  5. Possess ability to operate telephones, computers and work in a surgical environment..
  6. Possess excellent attention to detail with ability to monitor own work for accuracy and thoroughness.
  7. Ability to speak and communicate clearly and professionally to accurately convey information in person or by phone.
  8. Ability to self-motivate, multi-task, function autonomously and collaboratively.
  9. Demonstrate excellent problem-solving and creative thinking skills.
  10. Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently.  Must have well-developed personal stress management skills and be able to work under time constraints.
  11. Adaptable, dependable, and ethical.
  12. OSHA Category I – Exposed regularly to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.  Bloodborne pathogens protection is required.
