Director of Arts Education

Description: The Director of Arts Education manages all KCYA teaching artists; oversees arts education programming throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area including evaluation, maintenance, and quality; supervises the Arts Partners (AP) Coordinator; assists with supervision of Programs Coordinator; and assists with Community School of the Arts (CSA) planning, goal-setting, scheduling, quality control, assessment, etc. This position requires excellent communication and organizational skills; and the ability to maintain good relationships with teaching artists, school administrators, and clients. The Director of Arts Education reports directly to the Executive Director. Flexible schedule includes: typical M-F work hours; one evening (until 8:00 pm) each week; occasional Saturday mornings; some remote work possible.

  • Responsible for KCYA teaching artist: recruiting, orientation, contract negotiation, management, evaluation, professional development, etc.
  • Curate all arts education program content; quality control, assessment, reporting
  • Manage KCYA’s participation in the Kennedy Center Partners in Education Program
  • Supervise AP Coordinator and assist with supervision of Programs Coordinator
  • Assist with Community School of the Arts (CSA) planning, goal-setting, scheduling, etc.
  • Assist with budgeting and fiscal management of School and Community Programs, Arts Partners and CSA
  • Coordinate and/or create Teacher Program Guides for each KCYA program
  • Assist Director of Marketing with the marketing of all programs
  • Assist with organizational initiatives related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access
  • (DEIA); Social Emotional Learning (SEL); Trauma-informed Instruction
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Minimum Qualifications:  Experience in arts and/or education field. Excellent communication, management and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills. Strong ability to manage multiple detail-orientated tasks. Creativity, adaptability and flexibility are a must. An ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Ability to work in a highly-collaborative environment.  Position requires schedule flexibility to include one evening/week and some Saturdays.
Preferred Qualifications:  Previous management experience.  Experience in a not-for-profit organization. Strong written and oral communication skills. Excels in interacting with multiple constituencies including teaching artists, educators, and students. Teaching and/or directing experience preferred.
