Job Description
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, one of the country’s leading art museums is seeking a Membership Specialist to join its Development team.  

The Membership Specialist is an entry-level (hourly) position with pivotal growth opportunity for individuals interested in non-profit fundraising and museum development.

BASIC FUNCTION
Reporting to the Development Manager, Membership, the Membership Specialist is responsible for soliciting membership and individual giving revenue through multiple channels to garner financial support for the museum. 
The role of the Membership Specialist is to contact, inform, renew, rejoin, join patrons to the Nelson-Atkins’ membership programs at all levels.  This role also assists with outreach calls to build relationships through event invitations and other messaging, as well as fielding inbound calls to the museum during set times each day. be a goal-oriented individual with technical aptitude, forward-thinking curiosity and problem-solving skills. 

Accountabilities
  1. Fundraising: Solicit patrons to bring in membership and annual fund revenue goals via audiences including: renewals, rejoins, joins, annual fund donations, etc.  
  2. Stewardship:  Implement a robust and meaningful stewardship program for members including but not limited to: reminders for events, soliciting participation in upcoming events, email/phone calls to remind of benefits, thank you calls, etc. 
  3. Data Entry & Maintenance: Responsible for the timely and accurate data entry and reporting of information across all relevant systems. Performs periodic assessment of membership information in the database to ensure accuracy prior to routine reporting. 
  4. Other: Completes all other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the department or organization.?
SCOPE
Supports the membership group (Business Council, Society of Fellows, and FOA/YFA) and serves as a vital facilitator in achieving a $4 million annual revenue team goal.
Average sales goal of $14,000 per month in membership sales.
Assist in providing concierge services to donors at all levels
 
CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES 
This position is challenged to create a positive renewal/donation/support experience through phone and occasional onsite interaction. 
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • A college degree (AA or BA/BS) in a relevant field with previous experience in non-profit fundraising or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • One or more years previous experience in an outbound or inbound call-center environment in a sales capacity. 
  • One or more years of experience using a Client Relationship Management system (CRM) such as Tessitura, Raiser's Edge, Salesforce, etc., to record, report and maintain data. 
  • Strong computing and technical acumen, including familiarity with Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, Outlook365 and other office applications. 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must possess a donor-centered attitude and excellent Customer Service skills. 
  • Goal-oriented individual motivated to move a bottom line.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be comfortable with public speaking, cold-calling, sales.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with a variety of constituents through effective interpersonal and direct communication skills. 
  • Excellent time management, planning, and teamwork skills.
  • Technical aptitude, forward-thinking curiosity and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment or independently.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn best practices in development, fundraising – particularly in a museum environment.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the Membership Specialist will work at a variable pace in an office environment with exposure to noise and PC monitors on a regular basis. Extended sitting and learned physical skill is required to perform keyboarding. The Membership Specialist must be able to speak, hear, see, read, write, type, dial, reach, and bend. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for light work.
