Youth and Young Adult Ministry Coordinator
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church
Kansas City, MO
The Youth and Young Adult Ministry Coordinator (YYMC) will play a leadership role in the St. Andrew’s Youth Ministry Program (6th-12th grade) and Young Adult Ministry Program. The YYMC will work closely with the St. Andrew’s Minister for Families, Young Adults, and Community Relations, the Youth Commission, and the Young Adult Commission to create relevant programs and offerings that invite youth and young adults into a deeper relationship with God, one another, and the world. This is a 25 hour a week position.
Youth
Overall Responsibilities 

  • Work with Youth Commission to develop overall vision for youth ministry with clear focus on inviting youth into a deeper relationship with God, one another, and the world.
  • Work closely with Youth Commission and Student Leaders to plan appropriate fellowship and mission/service opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and youth through email, text, website, social media, meetings, etc.
  • Recruit, train, and support high school student leadership team.
  • Plan agenda for weekly youth group meetings; staff youth group meetings.
  • Oversee the acolyte program.
    • Recruit and train acolytes. 
    • Coordinate acolyte schedule for worship services.
    • Oversee acolytes on Sunday mornings.
  • Oversee planning of the annual Christmas Tree Sale.
  • Oversee planning of the annual Winter Ski Retreat.
  • Coordinate Recognition/Senior Sunday.
  • Maintain contact with high school students away at boarding school and college students.
  • In cooperation and consultation with clergy, provide appropriate pastoral care to youth and families.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive community by overseeing compliance with Safe Church standards for all volunteers.
 
Young Adults
Objectives and Responsibilities
The Young Adult Coordinator will minister to the 22- to 39-year-old post college, career, single and married adults of our open and affirming community and help them connect to others in the same stages of life. This group is focused on helping integrate young adults into the wider life of the parish by focusing on service, social engagements, worship, and spiritual formation.
  • Work with the Young Adult Commission to develop an overall vision for young adult ministry that invites young adults to grow in relationship with God, each other, and the world.
  • Work with the Young Adult commission to identify, develop, and implement solutions to strategic needs for Young Adult Ministries.
  • Create and lead classes, social gatherings, outreach opportunities and retreats.  
  • Plan and implement opportunities for engagement at the Trailside Worship Service.
  • Provide church-wide visibility and communication to Young Adult activities.
  • In cooperation and consultation with clergy, provide appropriate pastoral care to youth and families.
 
Minimum Experience/Skills/ Competencies
  • Passionate about working with middle school and high school youth and their parents.
  • Passionate about working with young adults in their 20s and 30s.
  • Comfortable working in a Big Tent atmosphere where all are welcome.
  • Understanding of the Episcopal tradition of Christianity and strong sense of spiritual well-being.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, punctual, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Computer and social media experience.

Salary Range: Up to $29,999
