Development Assistant - Friends of Legal Aid

Legal Aid of Western Missouri is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a contract, part-time position to assist the Friends of Legal Aid organization.  The Development Assistant will support this newly formed volunteer organization by providing overall management.  The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  communications with existing and potential Friends Group members; schedule meetings and record minutes of meetings of the Friends Group organization; schedule speaking arrangements for Legal Aid Executive Director; maintain data base of existing and potential Friends members; organize and attend Friends functions and stewardship “Get to Know Legal Aid” meetings; and follow up on stewardship requests initiated by Friends members.
 
The qualified applicant must have the following skills:  engaging personality with a strong work ethic and a passion for helping low income individuals obtain justice; working knowledge of social media platforms; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint; experience in working with board and volunteer committees; strong verbal and written communication skills; and knowledge of and experience in fund/friend raising.  This position will primarily work from home requiring a reliable and efficient home office set up with an updated computer software program.
 
Legal Aid provides free civil (non-criminal) legal assistance to people who need it the most and can afford it the least. Our main areas of focus are: family law and domestic violence, foreclosure prevention, immigration law, appeal denials of veteran benefits, appeal denials of state Medicaid and public welfare benefits, housing assistance, elderly abuse and various consumer issues like predatory loans, unfair debt collections, etc.

Salary range:  Between $15-$20 per hour based upon previous experience.
