Development Associate

Position Purpose:

The Grooming Project opened its doors in January 2016 as the country’s only nonprofit grooming school. Our mission is to empower struggling families to become self-reliant through the provision of job training in the art of pet grooming, low-income housing, life skills, and practical solutions to end their cycle of poverty.
Due to the increased demand for services, The Grooming Project is preparing to double its impact within the next three years. The Grooming Project is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual to join the Development Team as a Development Associate.
The Development Associate is an integral member of the Development and Marketing team and will assist in fundraising, sponsorship, events, and administrative functions that are vital to the continued success of The Grooming Project and its mission. And, after a hard day’s work, this individual gets to go home knowing they are making a difference in people’s lives.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and current donor database records, as well as utilizing database tools for reporting and research
  • Perform regular data entry, process, and acknowledge all gifts received in a timely and accurate manner
  • Prepare donor and sponsorship acknowledgement communications
  • Assist with preparing and mailing fundraising appeals
  • Produce lists, data extractions, and reports as needed for direct mail and other reporting efforts
  • Coordinate with the Development and Communications Directors to create and shape online fundraising campaign messaging and digital forms that integrate with the database and giving platform
  • Maintain and update online forms and information relating to fundraising events and opportunities
  • Assist with planning and execution of fundraising projects and events (annual fundraising event, open houses/tours, 3rd party events, etc.)
  • Assist with development and maintenance of prospect lists and communications
  • Collaborate with Development and Marketing team members to develop timelines, track metrics, and ensure consistency in communications, messaging, and solicitations

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in meetings as requested by supervisor
  • Complete all areas of responsibility in compliance with program code of conduct and confidentiality policies
  • Be a contributory team member in a positive/productive manner
  • Demonstrate commitment to mission, values and policies in the performance of daily duties
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Requirements:

The following are preferred education, competencies, and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Data-driven with attention to detail and a commitment to accurate and concise data
  • Experience using reporting tools to research and create reports as requested in fundraising software/CRM
  • Experience accepting and recording donor gifts for similar nonprofit
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Ability to think and plan strategically
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and database management software

Necessary Physical/Mental Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate support for innovation and for organizational change
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
  • Ability to identify information needed to clarify a situation and seek that information from appropriate sources
