The Kansas City Public Library seeks a Development Director. The Development Director is a member of the Library’s leadership team with primary responsibility to raise funds aggressively and engage others in the process. Working with the Chief Executive, the Development Director will develop strategies, action plans and programs for fundraising and development activities; provide leadership in integrating development and fundraising plan/strategies with the Library’s strategic plan, vison and mission. This position provides strategic leadership in the solicitation and cultivation of Library’s donor base; directs major gift program; direct and ensure success of all capital, endowment, and special initiatives and fundraising campaigns. Organizes and implements fundraising activities, including signature events, publications, programs, and capital campaigns; directs annual fund program; develops a robust planned giving program; develops and implements on-line marketing and sales program; and expands corporate sponsorship opportunities. Oversees grant programs including research, proposal writing and reporting requirements; works closely with the Friends of the Library and other volunteers; coordinates gift acknowledgement process; and expands and maintains donor data base
Job requirements include the demonstrated ability to organize work effectively, think strategically and plan and execute programs and activities; considerable knowledge of organizational fund raising and development, grant writing, and available and potential funding sources; superior writing and public speaking ability; outstanding interpersonal skills, and proven skills in goal identification and achievement; strategic planning and organization of multiple projects. Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in related field and considerable successful experience in fundraising and major gift solicitation, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Full-time and exempt with starting salary of $65,000-$100,000 DOQ plus excellent benefits. This position is open until filled.
