Development Director

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Development Director to lead and oversee all fund development efforts at Healing House. In this role, you will provide strategic direction, management, and coordination to maximize fundraising opportunities and secure financial support from various sources. Your expertise in fundraising strategies, donor cultivation, and grant writing will be crucial in advancing the organization's mission and achieving its fundraising goals.


  • Supervise the development staff, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure the team's success in executing fundraising initiatives.

    • Set performance expectations and provide regular feedback to team members, fostering a high-performing and motivated development team.
    • Oversee the implementation of fundraising activities, ensuring adherence to timelines and goals.
    • Conduct regular team meetings and individual check-ins to assess progress, address challenges, and provide support as needed.
  • Develop and implement donor cultivation strategies, fostering strong relationships with current and prospective donors through personalized engagement plans.

    • Conduct research and analysis to identify potential major donors, corporations, and foundations aligned with the organization's mission and goals.
    • Create and execute targeted cultivation plans, including personalized communication, donor recognition, and stewardship activities.
    • Cultivate relationships through meetings, events, and networking opportunities to deepen donor engagement and secure long-term support.
  • Create and implement specific fundraising campaigns, tailoring approaches to target different donor segments and maximize contribution potential.

    • Develop compelling campaign messaging and materials, ensuring consistency with the organization's brand and mission.
    • Coordinate campaign logistics, including timeline development, budget management, and collaboration with marketing and communications teams.
    • Track campaign progress, analyze results, and make data-driven adjustments to optimize fundraising effectiveness.
  • Assist with the administration of the organization, collaborating with internal teams to ensure seamless integration of fundraising efforts with other operational functions.

    • Work closely with finance and operations teams to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting of fundraising activities.
    • Collaborate with program staff to gather impact stories and program outcomes for donor communications and proposals.
    • Coordinate with IT or database management teams to maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records and ensure data integrity.
  • Develop and implement annual and long-range fundraising plans, outlining strategies and tactics to meet revenue generation objectives.

    • Conduct a comprehensive analysis of past fundraising performance and donor trends to inform goal setting and planning.
    • Establish clear objectives, performance indicators, and benchmarks to monitor progress towards fundraising goals.
    • Allocate resources effectively and develop timelines to ensure timely implementation of fundraising initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate fundraising performance:

    • Analyze fundraising data and key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of different fundraising strategies and initiatives.
    • Prepare regular reports and dashboards to present fundraising results, trends, and insights to the leadership team and board of directors.
    • Identify areas for improvement and recommend adjustments to fundraising strategies based on data analysis and best practices.
  • Engage with the Board of Directors and other key stakeholders to garner their support, involvement, and participation in fundraising activities.

    • Collaborate with the board's development committee to develop and execute board fundraising strategies and engagement plans.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to the board on fundraising progress, opportunities, and challenges.
    • Support board members in their fundraising roles by providing training, resources, and guidance as needed.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, nurturing connections and soliciting contributions for annual gifts, planned gifts, and capital campaigns.

    • Identify and prioritize major donor prospects, developing personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies.
    • Conduct face-to-face meetings with major donors to deepen relationships and secure philanthropic commitments.
    • Ensure timely and accurate acknowledgment, recognition, and stewardship of major donors to maintain strong donor loyalty.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging practices, and innovative fundraising methods, incorporating relevant strategies to enhance the organization's fundraising efforts.

    • Attend professional development conferences, workshops, and webinars to expand knowledge and stay updated on fundraising best practices.
    • Research and assess emerging fundraising technologies and platforms, recommending their adoption to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Share insights, trends, and new ideas with the development team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Job Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $50,000 - 74,999
