Engagement Associate

Classification: Full Time, Exempt            
Reports To: Chief Engagement Officer

Position Summary

United Inner City Services (UICS) is a regional leader in early childhood education and family development, through its nonprofit operation of three Kansas City-area schools: Metro Child and Family Development Center (midtown), North Child and Family Development Center (Pleasant Valley), and St. Mark Child and Family Development Center (northeast).
The Engagement Associate is responsible for managing UICS’ donor database system (Bloomerang), which represents the nonprofit’s individual, corporate, and organizational giving partners, donations, and points of contact in the stewardship process. Reporting to the Chief Engagement Officer, the position is a team contributor to each donor channel’s fundraising steps and assists with data tracking, donor meeting and engagement preparation, event support, and internal communications. The position will also manage the day-to-day creation of marketing and recruitment tactics, using a diverse means of outreach, in coordination with our agency communications plan.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Donor Data Management
  • Primary manager of all donor and prospect data records including gifts received and creation of acknowledgement correspondence via the donor management system (Bloomerang).
  • Maintain donor/prospect data records for accuracy, updates, and relevant information.
  • Manage event guest lists and records, including key individual and corporate leadership partners.
  • Lead Development department’s annual financial documentation exercises, including audit document preparation process and distribution of annual tax letters.
  • Provide a weekly report of all giving, for donor stewardship and team/executive review.
  • Train new employees on Bloomerang, along with updating the team on software changes/updates.
  • Manage data transfer into external communication tools (email database, direct mail lists, etc.) for donor/partner stewardship.
  • Prepare CEO and Chief Engagement Officer with acknowledgement letters and stewardship notes. 
  • Assist Individual Giving Manager with fundraising event planning and execution.
  • Logistically support on-site volunteer and tour experiences, including collateral preparation, scheduling, audio-visual preparation, and hospitality.
  • Internal communication of event coordination, guest visits, and program-/project-relevant messaging, in coordination with the Individual Giving Manager.
  • Represent UICS with enthusiasm and a spirit of empowerment at community and donor events, including set-up, operation, and breakdown.
  • Develop and implement, in collaboration with the Chief Engagement Officer and the Individual Giving Manager, an ongoing stewardship program with existing donors and volunteers, recognizing past and current commitments and fosters support for future efforts. This includes serving as a writing contributor/editor of monthly e-newsletters, quarterly newsletters, blog posts, annual gratitude report, special event invitations, and other outreach that tells the UICS mission story.
  • Manage agency website (, including content updates, online giving, and events calendar. 
  • Manage UICS’ social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube channels).
  • Prepare and execute a social media editorial calendar in coordination with the strategic communications plan and Development team.
  • Collaborate with contract graphic designers, printers, mail houses, and external vendors/partners to complete projects to support events and organizational activities.
  • Ensure agency brand standards and integrate through all outreach and communications channels.
  • Partner with Individual Giving Manager for communication of events, guest visits, and program-/project-relevant messaging.
  • Work collaboratively with UICS staff to gather storytelling content to support organizational outreach.
  • Organize and manage UICS alumni family outreach (email, social media, and service opportunities).
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Non-Profit Management, Marketing, Communications, English, or Journalism with 1-3 years of related experience; comparable years of experience will be considered.
  • Experience on fundraising CRM system preferred; must have strong aptitude for data management and ability to train other staff on use of the system.
  • Detail-oriented, specifically regarding data management, and capable of multi-tasking and managing various projects simultaneously; able to consistently meet project deadlines.
  • Strong writer; aptitude for art direction and layout.
  • Experience with developing and delivering digital content (social media brand management, website storytelling content) to engage the public with an organization and its mission; WordPress experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups in a culturally competent manner.
  • Ability to articulate the vision, goals, and activities of the organization in order to inspire participation.
  • Proficient with Windows software programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Keynote.
  • Proficient with G Suite and Zoom for collaborative work responsibilities and meeting opportunities.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, work independently, and collaborate with others.
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends when required, primarily to support UICS fundraising and community events.
Physical Requirements
  • Be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Frequent bending, walking, squatting, lifting, standing, and/or sitting.
  • Exposure to children’s illnesses and diseases.
Writing samples will be requested, specifically in the area of digital storytelling and blogging. A timed writing test will also be a part of the selection process.  A cover letter must accompany any resume submissions.
