Program Development Director

Unbound is working to make meaningful change in the world and we are seeking an experienced Program Development Director to help us. Reporting to the Director of Growth & Revenue Development (GRD), the Program Development Director is responsible for leading the creation of new programs and initiatives that will motivate groups and institutions to deepen their engagement with Unbound. This new role will directly support our long-term goals of growth and diversification. This leader will collaborate across various teams to expand our offerings in existing and emerging channels.

The director will partner with GRD leadership and cross functional staff to ideate and test new options for attracting and engaging various groups (churches, schools, workplaces, associations, affinity groups, etc.) into our community. The director will focus on designing and developing value-added programs which are complementary activities, offers and experiences to achieve a desired outcome (awareness, engagement, conversion, advocacy) amongst a targeted group. These programs will help Unbound build new and extend existing relationships with the leaders and active members of these communities. The director will be charged with building a collection of “turnkey” branded programs that can be adapted by account managers and market developers to nurture the group level relationships. These programs may include the support and capabilities of 3rd party partners.

Key to this position is leading with a customer-focused mindset. This leader must anticipate and help address the unique needs and wants of different audiences who are accessible through key groups. The director must be a strategic collaborator who can pull in team members (channel leaders, creatives, and other cross functional team members) to build new and continually refine the portfolio of programs. They must naturally exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit which is passionate, future-oriented, creative and pragmatic. They will bring high energy and sense of urgency to the role and the organization. They will rely on data and diverse input to anticipate and forge a path forward. They will be comfortable dealing with ambiguity and taking calculated risks. They must effectively navigate from conceptual or strategic level thinking to the details of feasible execution. They will gather feedback and data to make necessary adjustments.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Draft and execute a multi-year road map for developing and refining high impact, value-added programs that will benefit the acquisition, retention, and cross-sell strategies for Unbound.
  • Refine and develop new volunteer programs that inspire and engage the gifts/talents of multi-generational audiences who want to actively participate in the Unbound mission.
  • Collaborate with key functional leaders to design and build impactful content and experiences that can be refined over time
  • Engages, motivates, and aligns internal subject matter experts, vendors, and cross functional working teams to support the programs being developed and executed

  • Energetic, self-starting and independent thinker who demonstrates a strong work-ethic
  • 10 plus years of leadership experience with a proven track record in setting a vision and aligning resources to pursue it with excellence
  • Previous success leading critical cross-functional initiatives that require scoping the problem, facilitating a solution, planning the implementation, and delivering results
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with an ability to influence, persuade, negotiate and inspire others to engage and support transformational change
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: proven ability to work strategically and effectively with all levels and functional disciplines
  • Strong analytic skills that yield insight and recommendations from data, research and reporting
  • Team player committed to mutual respect, candid communication, and pursuit of a shared goal
  • High aptitude for utilizing and applying new and existing technologies within customer facing platforms (CRM, websites, email, etc…)
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from college or university, preferably in communications, marketing or public relations, and/or minimum of ten years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA highly preferred.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in the nonprofit sector with primary concentrations in marketing or donor services
  • Experience in “start-up” entrepreneurial, environments
