Associate Director for Youth Ministries

Purpose

The Associate Director of Youth Ministries works with all youth, 7th-12th grades, assisting the Pastor of Youth Ministries and as a team member of the Youth Department, seeking to understand and address the spiritual and social needs of adolescents and their families. Each year youth ministry runs several weekly programs and trips for mission, service, and spiritual growth; it is an engaging and creative program looking for people who mirror that enthusiasm for Christ, faith, relational ministry and service. Village Presbyterian has a talented and collaborative staff and a loving and supportive faith community of involved parents with energetic and thoughtful students.

Responsibilities

Ministry Goals:
  • Provide spiritual leadership to middle and high school students and their families, equipping students to become followers of Christ.
  • Create a safe haven for all youth (7th-12th grades) to interact with others, provide mutual support, explore their spirituality, and develop self-confidence.
  • Initiate time with students one-on-one, in small group settings, and/or large group events.
  • Ongoing, vibrant commitment to learning and growing in personal faith life.
Specific Ministry Responsibilities:
  • Assist in planning, directing, and executing weekly youth ministries/events, summer mission trips and related activities.
  • Develop and lead student/youth hospitality team.
  • Communicate effectively, consistently and compassionately with families and students.
  • Support the mission of Village Presbyterian Church in the wider community by taking part in mission/outreach activities and leading youth mission trips outside of Kansas City.
  • Seek out conferences, classes and materials that will serve as professional development/ continuing education.
  • Perform other job functions as necessarily and appropriate to enhance the ministry of Village Presbyterian Church.
Staff Responsibilities
  • Attend weekly church staff meetings.
  • Attend monthly youth ministry committee meetings.
  • Abide by the church’s Child/Youth protection guidelines and keep appropriate personal boundaries.

  • Able to support the mission and ministry of Village Presbyterian Church.
  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ, evident in your life and conversation, and serves as an example for others.
  • Personal commitment to continue to learn and grow in own Christian faith and knowledge through continuing education and professional development opportunities.
  • Professionalism in all aspects of ministry, including the ability to work independently and collaboratively with others, the ability to communicate effectively, and the ability to recognize and maintain confidentialities.
  • Able to co-lead/co-chaperone out-of-town (domestic & international) mission trips with students.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
