Early Head Start Home Visitor

Project Eagle is an early childhood program focused on preparing children, engaging families, and promoting excellence for children and families in Kansas City, Kansas. Project Eagle provides home-based and center-based services to pregnant women and/or children ages birth to five through a variety of programs, the largest being Early Head Start. The Early Head Start Home Visitor provides intensive, home-based early childhood education, parenting education, and family support services to voluntary participants in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards. The Home Visitor focuses on the four cornerstones of Early Head Start child development, family development, community building, and staff development to empower families in the areas of parenting, child development, health, nutrition, mental health, and self-sufficiency, by using outcome based interventions. The Home Visitor teaches problem-solving skills and refers families to community resources and existing service systems to promote independence.
 
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Development, Social Work or closely related area (an Associate’s degree in a related field, plus two years’ relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree).
Successful experience teaching child development and parenting education to adults.
Ability to identify and respond to the social, economic and cultural experiences of Project Eagle participants.
Ability to establish and maintain productive communication and working relationships with families, co-workers, and community members in order to develop and maintain quality client-centered services.
Willingness to deliver year-round home-based services on a flexible schedule to meet the needs of families.
Excellent organizational skills. Strong computer skills.
Desire for continuous professional development.
Valid driver’s license and access to personal car on a daily basis.
Ability to work some evenings.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or graduate level course work in any of the required discipline areas.
Experience working with children ages birth to three.
Two or more years of successful experience using a strengths-based family support approach teaching and/or delivering services in the following areas: prenatal education, early childhood education, and parenting education.
Experience delivering home-based services.
Knowledge and skills in completing comprehensive assessments covering all areas affecting family functioning.
Experience writing family goals or Individualized Family Partnership Agreements.
Knowledge of resources in Wyandotte County.
