Position Type: Full Time (40+ hours per week)

  • Hours may include before and after school shift hours (7-8:30am & 3pm-6pm)

Pre-K Before and After School Care Program Description:
The USC Before and After School Pre-K program is formed in conjunction with the Kansas City Kansas Early Childhood Center. The program serves approximately 40 students between the ages of 3 to 5 years of age in the urban core of Wyandotte county. The program provides a safe and educationally enriching alternative for children during non-school hours. Our goal is to set students up for productive school days through an effective morning routine that helps accomplish daily goals, with a mix of independent and organized activities, and educational and recreational opportunities. 


Our program enhances preschoolers’ confidence and boosts school readiness by providing activities to help children become problem solvers and lifelong learners. Through independent exploration, structured activities, and hands-on learning, children work on early literacy, math, science, and social concepts. We desire to develop the whole child through high-quality childcare and by tending to each child’s social and emotional needs, mixed with a healthy dose of physical activities. Every day in our before and after school program, children will have the opportunity to participate in:
  • Whole-group instruction 
  • Small-group activities that provide skill-based learning opportunities
  • Daily literacy -building activities
  • Child-directed play in learning centers 
  • Reflection of daily experiences
 

Pre-K Program Director Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure all paperwork and files are in compliance with existing childcare regulations.
  • Design, implement, and instruct curriculum for Pre-K Before and After School Care programming that promotes students emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
  • Train and supervise staff.
  • Provide a safe, warm, productive environment for students and staff.
  • Maintain a sanitary and safe environment.
  • Oversee daily activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date student, staff and after-school program records and provide periodic reports.
  • Prepare instructional objectives and lesson plans.
  • Ensure periodic and annual program evaluation including feedback from staff, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure preparation of snacks for students.
  • Obtain continuing education courses/credits/ and other compliance measures as needed to ensure certification.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
 

Requirements:

  • BS/BA degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Able to be licensed as a Pre-K Director in KS
  • Experience working in a licensed childcare facility
  • Child Development Association (CDA) Credentials
  • Completed KDHE Record of Observations
  •  Proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to work with an ethnically diverse population
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and efficient
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish good relationships
  • The ability to work independently
  • Have great initiative and leadership qualities
  • Possess a deep love for children in the inner city
 

Pay Range: Commensurate with experience.
