Tutoring Facilitator
Lead to Read KC, a local literacy program dedicated to improving basic reading skills by third grade, is a great place to work! Lead to Read KC provides one-on-one reading mentoring and tutoring support to students in high-need Kansas City classrooms.
Position: Tutoring Facilitator
Reports to: Program Manager, Tutoring
Job Purpose: To manage the delivery of Lead to Read KC’s in-school, one-on-one tutoring programs and serve as a liaison between Lead to Read KC and our partner schools/organizations.
Primary Responsibilities: This position will focus on seamlessly integrating the Lead to Read KC tutoring program into the classroom reading curriculum and/or ELA block. Duties include:
- Manage and monitor weekly Lead to Read KC online tutoring sessions at local partner elementary schools
- Tutoring is provided virtually by Hoot Reading’s certified classroom teachers.
- Facilitator is responsible for managing students in each tutoring session.
- Support/organize student devices and microphone headsets to ensure they are working and students are on-task.
- Train students and/teachers on tutoring procedures
- Record/monitor student progress and attendance
Time expectations: approximately 9-15 hours a week, 2-3 days a week
- School Year commitment (September - May)
- 2-3 hours at the school includes travel time (between the hours of 9:00AM - 3:00PM)
- Monday -Thursday availability
- Brief weekly meeting with LTRKC program manager; monthly all-employee meetings.
Qualifications/Skill Set:
- High School diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education preferred
- Strong interpersonal, writing, and organizational skills
- High comfort level working with a diverse group of colleagues, volunteers, students, and teachers of all backgrounds and abilities
- Proficient computer skills (Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Apple devices)
- Personal computer/mobile device with access to email
- Reliable personal transportation
- Strong commitment to improving student literacy and supporting the mission of LTRKC
Physical Requirements: This position requires some office work. Communication and interaction with others are required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and report. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and sit for long periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Compensation: $20.00 per hour (includes travel time to/from schools); part-time, non-exempt
