Youth Program Coordinator - JA BizTown

Posted: 09/01/2024

Welcome to JA BizTown. Presented by CommunityAmerica Credit Union
JA BizTown is a signature program of Junior Achievement of Greater Kansas City, where upper elementary students from across the Kansas City region join together to run their own city. From landing a job to electing a mayor, this learning experience allows students to interact in a simulated economy and take on the role of employee, consumer, and engaged citizen. The journey begins in the classroom with four weeks of Junior Achievement intentional curriculum that culminates with a day at JA BizTown. Students put what they have learned in the classroom into action, through real world learning, practicing how to become a valuable member of the local workforce and community.

What you’ll do.
You play a major role in inspiring and preparing youth to achieve their greatest potential and realize economic mobility. As a Youth Program Coordinator, you work directly alongside students in a simulated city to empower them to be the best employee, citizen, and neighbor they can be. You will inspire them in real-time to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world.

A day in the life may look like this.

  • Start your day with a checklist, ensuring each storefront is stocked and ready for the students to run their city for a day.
  • Welcome our volunteers of the day, preparing them for their role in the simulation and ensure they are trained and ready to mentor
  • Greet the students with a smiling face and get right to work with hands-on interaction with the students as they embark on their own full day of “work”
  • Finish the day off with a quick reset of the space to be ready to welcome the next group of students.
  • Head home with a full heart, knowing the impact you had on students to inspire them for a bright tomorrow.
Who you are.
  • It takes a special person who is organized, fast-paced, and has a passion for working with our youth.
  • You thrive on being on-the-go and working alongside amazing teammates, volunteers, and students.
  • You are at least 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • You are looking for some part-time work, have some flexibility in your schedule, with availability for some hours within 7:30AM - 2:30PM, Monday to Friday.
  • At the end of the day, we want energetic and reliable staff to help inspire and empower our youth for a brighter tomorrow.
