Job Coach / Employment Specialist 

Job Title:  Job Coach / Employment Specialist Positions: Part Time 9-10 hours per week but can grow as the need arises
Reports to: MP-PCA Manager Salary: $25/hour or more, based on education and experience Hourly:
day, evening and/or weekend hours as needed
Description of Agency:
Mission Project - Personal Care Assistants works alongside The Mission Project, Inc. as a not-for-profit organization that enables high-functioning adults with developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome and autism, to live and work safely on their own with individualized support.  In addition to providing Personal Care Assistants to our participants, the agency is currently adding a job coaching position in a new pilot program to primarily assist the unemployed and under-employed participants to find meaningful employment and develop employment skills.
Job Summary:                                                                                                                                                     
The Job Coach / Employment Specialist is responsible for engaging participants currently qualified to receive job coaching who either have barriers to employment or are underemployed, in a one-on-one setting. The Job Coach / Employment Specialist will also conduct groups on career services such as resume writing, job search skills, interviewing and job retention, as well as coordinating and facilitating power skills/soft skills classes to participants.
Job Coach / Employment Specialist Responsibilities:
Responsibilities are based on specific needs of individual participants but might include:
  • tailoring job-placement services based on a person’s unique abilities, skills, and career interests;
  • conducting discovery and exploration activities and on-site job training and job-retention supports and services for our participants to provide customized employment services;
  • development of vocational interest;
  • providing one-on-one training for supported participants on his/her competitive job;
  • maintaining accurate and timely documentation of participants’ progress with clear communication to immediate supervisor;
  • assuring training effectiveness, responsiveness, performance, quality and customer satisfaction;
  • establishing and maintaining employer relationships and facilitate the building of natural supports at the workplace;
  • learning the business' culture and effectively communicating to the client and continually identifying and developing a plan to reduce on-site support
Additional Requirements: 
Candidates must possess the:
  • Ability to interact with and provide effective client services;
  • Ability to effectively manage time to handle responsibilities;
  • Ability to effectively utilize technology for tracking and reporting;
  • Ability to problem solve;
  • Commitment to advocacy benefitting clients, community, social change and public policy.
  • High school diploma with a minimum of two years of experience in related field;
  • Certified by a national training and certifying body, such as APSE, for employment specialists, job specialists, job coaches, supported employment specialists;
  • Flexibility with schedule;
  • Valid Kansas or Missouri driver’s license and reliable transportation;
  • Good communication skills and computer knowledge;
  • Ability to work independently and without daily direct supervision;
  • Understanding of various governmental benefits streams related to job placement and coaching;
  • Experience working with adults with autism, Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities;
  • Experience and skill in sales and marketing with the goal of developing positive relationships with employers to create a positive impression of supported employment in the community.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and work experience
  • Experience providing life skills in community-based settings
  • Education or training related to individuals with special needs
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid
