Executive Director

Purpose

The Executive Director is the key management leader of The Single MOM KC, working with the Board of Directors and staff to ensure the organization fulfills its mission. The Executive Director is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives, developing resources to guarantee the ongoing financial health of the organization . The Executive Director will oversee the administration, programs, strategic plan and community outreach, being responsible to enhance the organization’s visibility in the community by working closely with other professional, civic, church and community organizations.

The Executive Director is a staff position and reports directly to the Board of Directors.  

 


 

Leadership    

  • Alignment with the organization mission, vision and purpose

  • Develop and implement organization vision and strategic plan with support of the board and staff

  • Develop, implement and oversee partner development and retention, along with the support of the board of directors and fund development committee. 

  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization

  • Represent the organization at community activities to enhance the organization's community profile

  • Gives oversight to the Program Director to ensure implementation of programs and outreach. 

  • Draft policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures to implement the organizational policies; review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate

Operational and Program Planning and Management

  • Working alongside the Program Director, ED engages in the implementation and evaluation of all ongoing programs of The Single Mom KC to ensure the programs are within the mission and strategic plan.  

  • Participates in the development of new programming, along with other staff and leadership, to ensure new programming remains within the parameters of the organizational mission and strategic plan. 

  • Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization

Human Resources

  • Give oversight to the staffing needs for organizational management and program delivery

  • Program Director and other staff members report directly or indirectly to the Executive Director

  • Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job description for all staff and leadership

  • Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further the organization's mission

  • Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance

Financial Planning and Management 

  • Develop a comprehensive budget and fund development goals

  • Secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization

  • Lead partnership efforts (individual, business, and church partners)

  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.

Community Relations

  • Communicate with partners to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organization

  • Maintain consistent communication with stakeholders regarding current and future programming initiatives

  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization

  • Oversees the maintenance of all marketing efforts including social media and website presence 

Risk management

  • Identify and evaluate the risks to the organization's people (clients, staff, management, volunteers), property, finances, goodwill, and image and implement measures to control risks

    

Professional Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related fields

  • Transparent and high integrity leadership

  • Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience preferred, however other experience may be considered in lieu of the non-profit management experience.

  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation

  • Ability to convey a vision of organization’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donors

  • Knowledge of fund development strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector

  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate board members and other volunteers

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff

  • Strong public speaking ability

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and ability to learn database.
