Executive Director - HopeKids Kansas City

Job Description
Position: Executive Director (Salaried, Full-Time exempt)
Location: Kansas City Chapter
Reports to: President

Position Summary: The Executive Director reports to the President.  The Executive Director will be responsible for growing and sustaining the Kansas City chapter (launched in March 2017) and will be responsible for all day-to-day fundraising operations and will supervise the work of a Program Manager to help provide an on-going calendar of events for HopeKids families.  Areas of responsibility include planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of the Kansas City chapter development, programming, and public awareness initiatives.  The Executive Director should exhibit an outgoing, polite and friendly
personality, while being able to cope with the emotional strain related to working with children who face life-threatening medical conditions.
 
Requirements:

  • Act in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years of non-profit leadership experience (Executive Director, Director of Development etc) or similar for-profit experience (Leadership, sales etc)
  • Must reside in the Kansas City metropolitan area
  • Must be able to work from home and have a designated office space
  • Flexible work hours requiring nights and weekends
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check
  • Must have a reliable and insured vehicle
  • Must have a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to HopeKids’ insurance provider
  • Required to transport materials weighing up to 30 pounds from a vehicle to a building as well as preparing facilities for events, with or without assistance
Fundraising Responsibilities:
Prior non-profit fundraising (or sales) experience required.  The Executive Director will be responsible for the fundraising efforts required to grow and sustain the Kansas City chapter:
  • Planning and coordination of fundraising events (i.e. Golf Tournament, Gala, Walk/Run)
  • Identification and preparation of grant proposals
  • Development of new funding opportunities
  • Cultivation of financial support and the stewardship of those relationships
  • Cultivation of donations of in-kind resources to support the HopeDay Program
  • Establish relationships with new donors or prospects leading to transformational relationships, solicitation of and receipt of gifts
  • Manage and steward a portfolio of individual, corporation, and foundation donors and prospects
  • Assist with other tasks as required and assigned by the President
Program Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for overseeing the implementation of HopeKids on-going calendar of events - our "HopeDay Program."
  • Supervise the work of a Program Manager
  • Attend HopeDay Program events
  • Establish relationships/friendships with HopeKids families
  • Maintain relationships with HopeDay Program event partners
  • Maintain and update all recordkeeping and operational documents
  • Assist with other tasks as required and assigned by the President
Other Responsibilities:
  • Along with National Director of Communications will oversee all Kansas City chapter public awareness initiatives including marketing, all internal and external communications, and public awareness materials needed to enhance the brand and visibility
  • Make recommendations to the President regarding the employment, performance evaluation, termination and training of staff
  • Ensure professional competence and performance of staff
Finances:
  • Prepare and monitor budgets in collaboration with President
  • Ensure that the Kansas City chapter operates within budgetary guidelines
  • Raise funds to ensure the Kansas City chapter is able to fulfill its mission and become self-sustaining within HopeKids’ expansion timeline.
State Board:
  • Experience working with a local State Board
Legal:
  • Execute legal documents in conjunction with the President
  • Ensure organization policies and procedures are implemented 
Other Competencies:
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Maintain strong communication with President, National Director of Communications and other national and chapter staff
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and financial management skills
  • Ability to delegate to and oversee the work of a Program Manager
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong technology skills; must be proficient with Laptop (MAC), iPhone, Email, Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Drive.  Ability to easily learn new software products.
  • Ability to learn and maintain a working knowledge of HopeKids’ website, CRM (eTapestry) and event management system
