Healthcare Billing Specialist

SALARY: $22.00 per hour


The Healthcare Billing Specialist is an integral position within the Village Shalom Business Office. This position must have strong communication skills and work well with community residents and staff.

The primary responsibility of this position will be to meet with residents and/or their agents and gather insurance coverages and details to support, initiate and administer service billing.  This includes understanding and engagement of insurance coverages, including Medicare and Medicaid and to update the Electronic Medical Record (“EMR”) system, including billing duties.   This role will have responsibility for monitoring resident spend down and insurance collections to proactively ensure Village Shalom the proper billing and collecting process for services.


  • Monitoring and administrating resident insurance eligibility and enter information into EMR daily.  This includes the various pay source information by resident.
  • Maintain knowledge and use of Medicare and Medicaid rules as published by regulatory authorities.
  • Monitor, maintain and report resident spenddown and payment status.   Professionally and confidentially communicate information to residents and/or their agents, including resolution of issues to ensure submissions are properly processed and paid by paying agencies.
  • Responsible to bill or rebill services to Medicaid if/when retro eligibility is established.
  • Responsible for reviewing and resolving EOBs that impact payments and rebilling, as required, to ensure timely processing by agencies.
  • Responsible to make billing adjustments as necessary on resident accounts.
  • Provide engagement and assistance on patient and resident billing matters in a timely and manner to stakeholders.
  • Regular review and evaluation of Account Receivable aging to ensure timely action for collections
  • Support the Executive team with special projects including the identification and implementation of efficiencies in the billing and collection process.
  • Possess a high diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience
  • Experience with private Healthcare Insurance processing, Medicare and Medicaid rules, pay or submittals and collections in partnership with billing agent and management
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Good computer keyboard skills, proficient in Microsoft platforms, and be able to navigate the internet easily.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be able to communicate confidentially, effectively and timely with residents, staff and management

Salary Range: $30,000 - 49,999
