Nurse Practitioner

Provides primary health care services including general and preventive medical care.

Clinical Care Duties:

  • Provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients, including performing history and physical exams and prescribing therapy; managing acute, chronic and preventive care; and referring for hospital and specialty services. These services are provided under a supervising physician.
  • Interprets laboratory results, results of outside tests and reports from outside consultants.
  • Makes competent health care diagnosis and treatment decisions with appropriate consultation with other clinic staff.
  • Provides or supervises patient information and education.
  • Assists in establishing guidelines for management of patients in collaboration with provider and nursing staff.
  • Maintains accurate records, medication lists, documentation of care and follow-up.
  • Identifies barriers to patient care and delivery of services and assists in formulating corrective action.
  • Collaborates with Vice President of General Medicine, Vice President of Specialty Services and Chief Medical Officer in the evaluation of services, program planning and program development.
  • Assists in the Quality Improvement program and development and implement quality guidelines and peer review.
  • Reviews current literature to remain current with advances in therapeutic interventions.
  • Incorporates research findings regarding health promotion, disease prevention and lifestyle choices into practice.
  • Serve as sub investigator as assigned.


  • Communicates patient’s health status accurately in verbal and written reports to appropriate health care providers (i.e. Charge Nurse, providers).
  • Communicates effectively, courteously and collaboratively with patient, providers, supervisors, and co-workers.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.

Safety/Risk Management:

  • Adheres to health center safety, infection control and hazardous waste procedures.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

General Employee Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Quality Improvement processes and activities in the organization.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Provide orientation to new volunteers, students and employees.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Registered Nurse, Medical Assistant and any other health personnel when FNP is the senior-ranked health care Provider on site.


Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Requires long periods of standing
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 35 pounds.
  • Requires ability to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and reach.
  • Requires ability to use routine office equipment such as computer and telephone.
  • Requires ability to comprehend both oral and written communications.
  • Requires sufficient near-vision to be able to read document and computer screen.
  • OSHA Category 1: All procedures or other job-related tasks involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues or a potential for spills or splashes of these fluids.
  • HIPAA Classification: Unrestricted Access: A workforce member with unrestricted access will have full access to patient’s protected health information, including the patient’s entire medical record, for patient care purposes.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current Missouri medical license required.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience as Advanced Practice Nurse preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
  • Ability to relate to a broad and diverse spectrum of the community.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks.
  • Ability to understand and present verbal instructions and to exchange verbal information.
  • Ability to work in a professional manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with patients, coworkers and others.
  • Ability to work in Windows based computer environment.
