Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Specialty Clinic Registered Nurse is to function as the primary nursing and operational support for the Tele-psychiatry Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) program and the Medical Specialty Clinic.  This role will serve as a conduit among behavioral health services, primary care services and specialty services.

Primary Functions

  1. Maintain strict patient confidentiality and right to privacy

  2. Assist with planning, coordination, scheduling of activities that promote recovery, symptom management, and community engagement.

  3. Collaborates with team members within the organization, outside referral sites and with providers/staff from the team

  4. Proficient in the electronic medication management system (eMAR) to train, monitor progress in the system, and generate reports.

  5. Facilitate individual engagement in activities to promote wellness, recovery, and goal achievement.

  6. Perform all other duties as assigned.


  • Serves as primary nursing support for the provider delivering MAT Tele-psych services to substance use patients in the context of their recovery
  • Performs ongoing assessment, evaluations, triage, teaching, inductions, stabilizations and monitoring of patients in the MAT Tele-psych treatment program.

  • Provide ongoing management, education and support of patients in all phases of treatment including; nursing visits scheduled and random, urine screens, routine labs as needed, medication teaching

  • Assess and monitor patients in the induction, stabilization and maintenance phases of treatment

  • Follow State and Federal guidelines in providing care to patients in collaboration with licensed, prescribing providers and pharmacy

  • Support the use of recovery tools and modeling successful recovery behaviors.

  • Provide assistance to individuals in accessing necessary SUD, mental or physical health care and encourage active participation, self-advocacy, and empowerment to best meet needs for health and wellness.


  • Serves as primary nursing support for the providers delivering specialty services (Cardiology and Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioners) at Swope Health Services

  • Performs assessments, evaluations, teaching for Medical Specialty services

  • Performs other clinical tasks including EKG, vital signs, taking patient history, medication reconciliation

  • Pre-visit planning of patients for each clinic day

Educational Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred

Experience & Qualifications

  1. Experience working with individuals with substance use disorder, severe and persistent mental illness preferred.

  2. Proficient knowledge of the treatment community and culture.

  3. Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills required.             

  4. Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance.

  5. Basic Life Support

  6. Minimum of 2 years of inpatient or clinical nursing experience required


Certification & Licensure Requirements

Licensed by the Missouri Board of Nursing, a part of the Division of Professional Registration.
