Position: Speech-Language Pathologist
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Reports To: Early Intervention Program Director &/or Directory of Therapy Services
Direct Reports: None
Working with a comprehensive educational team, the speech-language pathologist will address speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and feeding/swallowing. Through evaluation, treatment, and consultation, the speech-language pathologist will work with families, teachers of the visually impaired, and other members of the educational team to ensure that students are able to participate in the home, community, and school environment to the fullest extent possible.

• Assesses and monitors child’s speech, language, social, and cognitive development and in relation to the child’s functional vision.
• Observes and evaluates students for further assessment needs based on observation and/or referral.
• Provides a multimodal approach to therapy within the context of the home, community, classroom, therapy room, or pool according to the child’s IFSP, IEP, Goal Plan, or Service Plan.
• Performs co-visits with teachers and therapists of other disciplines.
• Works with outside agencies to ensure good communication and service.
• Develops educational plan goals and implements strategies by educating families and staff.
• Maintains data on each child’s progress and writes subsequent reports.
• Completes documentation and billing requirements.
• Communicates directly with parents to keep them updated on the child’s therapy.
• Makes referrals to other providers, both within the agency and interagency, when needed.
• Researches and educates self with regard to current educational and therapeutic trends and evidence.
• Evaluates and make recommendations for augmentative and alternative communication devices.
• Works closely with funders and supplier to ensure the child receives the necessary equipment.
• Attends staff and team meetings along with in-services.
• Home, community, office, &/or classrooms. No extreme temperatures.
• Sitting, standing, and walking
• Lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring students (lifting independently up to 35 pounds and co-lifting up to 60 pounds)
• Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
• Less than 50%
Required education and experience
• Master’s degree from an accredited university in the field of speech pathology
• Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
• Kansas and Missouri license/registration
• Experience working with children as a speech and language pathologist
Preferred education and experience
• Experience with young children with developmental delays.
• Experience working with visually impaired children as a Speech and Language Pathologist
