Human Resources Generalist

Reports To: Director of Human Resources

Position Summary 

The Human Resources Generalist facilitates current human resources processes and procedures for all locations of UICS. This position is key in assisting with the coordination of all steps of the recruitment, hiring,  and retention of all employees. This role will also provide administrative support to the human resources department as needed. They will perform routine tasks to administer and execute HR programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, leave, personnel matters, performance and talent management, recognition and morale, health and safety, and training and development. Maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor is essential in this role as the human resources department is integral in cultivating a positive culture within the organization.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Create, maintain, and audit employee HR files to ensure legal compliance.
  • Maintain employee compliance with HeadStart, licensing and other governing/licensing bodies.
  • Manage new hire processes, including but not limited to I-9 verification, background screenings, onboarding, and required training.
  • Assist in staff recruitment to fulfill staffing requirements.
  • Assist in review or creation of training manuals, HR Policy manual, and Employee Handbook.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and certifications.
  • Coordinate training classes and meeting schedules.
  • Assist with creation, distribution, and collection of feedback from company-wide annual surveys.
  • Process required documents for payroll and benefit insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
  • Respond in a timely fashion to employee inquiries.
  • Reconcile benefit statements.
  • Maintain employee information in Child Plus Software in compliance with Head Start Regulations.
  • Maintain an efficient process for Workers Compensation reporting.
  • Handles inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Uphold a strict level of confidentiality.
  • Provide administrative support to the CEO and the executive team on an as needed basis.
  • Ability to travel between center locations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.
  Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least one year of human resource management experience is preferred.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, work independently, and collaborate with others.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups in a culturally competent manner.
  Physical Requirements
  • Be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, walking, squatting, lifting, standing, and/or sitting.
  • Exposure to children’s illnesses and diseases.
  • Exposure to varying outside temperatures (heat and cold).
