Data Engineer

The Data Engineer will work with Lead Data Engineer to support Community Foundation ‘s database and Data Warehouse environment.  This is a new position to support our growing organization and will be located in our Kansas City, MO office.
 
This person must be agile, kind, and efficient, and operate independently and collaboratively in a manner consistent with the values of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. 
 
Essential Functions: 
  • Ability to build secure, well designed code.
  • Understanding of data management systems and MS SQL Server environment.
  • Write sophisticated and optimized SQL queries.
  • Experience in relational database design.
  • 3+ years of experience in development of database objects schemas, tables, views, stored procedures, functions etc.
  • Analyze and find issues in the data and work to prioritize and find solutions.
  • Handle common database procedures such as upgrades, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
  • Knowledge of performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Power BI is preferred.
  • Build out tests and quality checks to ensure quality level of code and identify data discrepancies.
  • Other duties as assigned and/or deemed necessary.
Job Requirements
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Education and Experience:
  • Database development using MS SQL Server
  • Productivity Tools/Languages: Visual Studio/Visual Studio Code, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
Physical Requirements: 
Must be able to regularly complete tasks at a computer terminal while sitting for long periods of time. Required to communicate and interpret detailed information orally. May exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Employee is required to have visual acuity to properly prepare and analyze assigned work. Typical indoor office environment with moderate noise level, frequent interruptions and fast work pace.
