LTE Broadband Technician

About the Role

PCs for People is a national leader in digital inclusion, providing internet, computers, and digital skills to hundreds of thousands of families across the US. As a Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP), we are on the forefront of an innovative deployment model for affordable fixed wireless internet.  Over the next year, we are poised to launch hundreds of small cell LTE networks in cities around the county. We are looking for an experienced LTE Technician to join our installation efforts in Kansas City, MO and across the country. This role is based in Kansas City, MO. The ideal candidate must be familiar with electronics, high speed broadband technologies, digital radio technology, and wireless network systems.

The LTE Technician is a key member of the PCs for People WISP team, leading LTE installations, executing maintenance/repairs and supporting LTE projects across the department. This role requires outdoor, physical labor in all seasons and regular travel. Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure network build, deployment, maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely fashion.

  • Troubleshoot issues in all WISP locations, working with on-site staff both remotely and in person when needed

  • Partner with licensed contractors to complete work outside of our in-house capabilities

    •    Ensure multiple quotes, oversee work, and approve payment based on contract fulfillment

  • Execute a preventative maintenance schedule

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to identify and manage outages

  • Ensure proper intake and storage of assets

  • Keeping records of installations, repairs, and maintenance

  • Adjusting or calibrating equipment settings to maintain and improve service

  • Troubleshoot network issues

  • Replace or repair malfunctioning, damaged, or faulty equipment

  • Service and inspect wiring, wireless towers, and equipment

  • Set up, replace, and rearrange routing equipment

  • Provide technical support to customer service staff

  • Lead team members in installation process

  • Work closely with the dispatch center for work assignments and service orders

  • Carry out all work in the safest possible manner

  • Assisting with special projects assigned by management as needed

Desired Skills/Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in telecommunication or related field or equivalent work experience

  • Highly motivated technician, with a proven record of outstanding productivity

  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable form of transportation and satisfactory driving history

  • Willingness and drive to continually keep up with changes in broadband technology and PCS for People product offerings

  •  Ability to travel up to 40%

  • Highly motivated, resilient, and solutions oriented – we are building the internet which is exciting and challenging!

  •  Ability to lift 25 lbs regularly and up to 50lbs in pairs

  •  Ability to squat, climb, lift, twist, and do other physical maneuvers regularly

  • Ability to execute work on rooftops, on high structures, and in other environments in accordance with safety standards

  • High level of judgement in decision making and ability to see the big picture implications of each decision

  • Interest in computers, internet, people and technology

  • Passion for making a positive impact in the community

  • Ability to handle multiple issues simultaneously, with a positive, upbeat attitude
