Network Administrator

The Network Administrator is an expert who helps achieve the objectives of the Library by implementing new technological solutions, maintaining and administering existing systems, and resolving relevant staff and patron technology requests with a primary emphasis on network related operations and security.   

The Network Administrator will also be responsible for some SaaS system administration such as Microsoft 365 Administration including Teams and SharePoint. The Network Administrator is a peer to the System Administrator and will share some responsibilities and support duties with this person. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  1. Designs, installs, deploys, and maintains Library network infrastructure including physical equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points, and logical organization and related services and features such as VLAN, DHCP, DNS, Certificates, and Teams phone. 
  2. Maintains Library security related systems such as security camera system, access control system, network aspects of security and vulnerability management systems. Follows industry news to be aware of current attacks and vulnerabilities to assess and respond to Library vulnerabilities. Incorporating security mindfulness in all other responsibilities. 
  3. Collaborates with the IT team to administer the Library’s Microsoft 365 systems including Exchange Online, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, and Azure. Research and continue the build out of additional Microsoft 365 capabilities. 
  4. Maintain, upgrade, and support a variety of general purpose and library specific applications and subscriptions such as Splash, Zoom, IIS, and network and security related aspects of Alma and Primo. 
  5. Collaborates with the IT team to administer and deploy the Library’s identity and access management systems such as AD, Entra, and DUO. 
  6. Maintains awareness of technology trends and collaborates with Director of IT to recommend improvements so that the Library infrastructure remains current, healthy, secure and serves well current and future technology needs. 
  7. Diagnose and respond to staff and patron technology needs. Diagnose and respond to infrastructure disruptions which may require action and response outside of normal working hours. 
  8. Collaborates with the IT team to administer the Library’s audio/visual systems such as conference rooms and meeting spaces. Research and deploy new audio visual technologies. 
  9. Completes all other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the Library. 

SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 40-hour work week between the hours of 6:00 am – 7:00 pm, with some evenings and weekends, as required. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None. 

REQUIREMENTS

Required 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant IT experience in the following areas 
  • Network planning such as physical topology, logical IP and VLAN organization 
  • Network hardware and configuration experience including Cisco IOS 
  • Wireless network administration 
  • Firewall management responsibilities 
  • Microsoft Active Directory administration 
  • Microsoft 365 and Azure administration including Entra, Teams and SharePoint 
  • Identity and security related technologies such as AD, Entra, DUO 
  • Windows and Linux server configuration, and maintenance including scripting with PowerShell and Linux shells  
  • Cybersecurity related responsibilities such as log review, analysis, and escalation 

Desirable 

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field  
  • Certificates in related technologies 
  • Experience working within a library, museum, academic, or cultural institution 
  • VMware server virtualization infrastructure experience 
  • Azure Conditional Access experience 
  • CIS Controls experience 
  • PCI compliance experience 
  • Audio/Visual systems experience

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Rarely (0-10%):

  • Attending occasional conferences or workshops.
  • Visiting nearby partner organizations or institutions for meetings.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position is based in a traditional office environment.

Salary Description: Pay range starts at $80,000 annually
