Internships! Building Performance and Sustainable Transportation

Posted: 05/09/2022

Metropolitan Energy Center is currently seeking summer interns to help keep Kansas City green. We are a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and economic vitality in the Heartland by advancing clean transportation and energy efficient buildings. We will consider the student’s program interests when placing the student, so that the intern’s responsibilities will be based upon our current need and your experience, skills, and interests.

Building Performance intern will support the Healthy Homes goals under our Energy Solutions Hub program. Activities will include multiple training events, community interaction and more. Some research assistance in our Codes and Policy projects could be required. More information: https://metroenergy.org/programs/energy-solutions-hub/. We are a scrappy team in a startup environment, and we value candidates with independent initiative and diverse skill sets.

Sustainable Transportation intern will support outreach and research needed to increase effectiveness of our transportation initiatives. These include a dozen projects under contract and our two Clean Cities coalitions under the U.S. Department of Energy alternative fuel programs. Learn more about Clean Cities and Central Kansas and Kansas City Regional Clean Cities Coalitions at www.eere.energy.gov/cleancities/.

Salary and Scheduling
Undergrad and Graduate students are both encouraged to apply. Educational tracks in Business, Communications, or Environmental Studies are preferred. Undergraduates receive $12/hr, and graduate students receive $15/hr, for up to 20 hours per week (or more during summer break). Our scheduling is very flexible, but working hours must fall within regular business hours, with a 20-hr/wk minimum. A good fit will have the opportunity to stay on for fall and winter, when a more flexible schedule is possible.
