Stewards VISTA: Heartland Conservation Alliance - Outdoor Education Coordinator

Position Details

Stewards Individual Placements (SIP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the Heartland Conservation Alliance are seeking an intern who will work with community leaders, conservation partners to develop and improve innovative projects to help youth and families access nature and spend more time outdoors. The Coordinator will be motivated, enjoy the outdoors, be a team player and able to work independently in diverse urban communities. The VISTA must possess skills in public speaking, developing events, engaging volunteers and conducting research.
The third year of the project, the VISTA will be planning and developing outdoor events, communicating success stories and recruiting participation from our six action areas. These activities will successfully impact people’s lives with increased access to nature and outdoor experiences. The VISTA will promote events, hold focus groups, attend trainings and conferences, develop community events and meetings, track and analyze results for the pilot project. The VISTA will develop the plan to recruit community members to experience the outdoors and connect to nature.
Position Responsibilities will include:
  • Plan and develop outdoor events, communicating success stories and recruit participation
  • Increase access to nature and outdoor experiences
  • Promote events, hold focus groups, develop community events and meetings
 Minimum Requirements:
  • College degree
  • Minimum Age of 18 
  • U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S. 
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Car recommended
  • Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $6,345.00 (pre-tax). 
  • Living Allowance of $513.94 Bi-weekly
