Who we are:
GreenLight Fund Kansas City launched in mid-2018. We are the newest Midwest site among the national 501(c)(3) GreenLight Fund venture philanthropy network that brings innovative approaches to deliver measurable social impact in target communities.
 
What we do:
GreenLight Fund Kansas City addresses the critical needs of low-income children and families in urban areas. We conduct an annual process to identify gaps in service and programming needs pertaining to low-income families; choose and invest in an innovative, high performing organization that has significant, proven outcomes in addressing identified needs; and galvanize local and national support across sectors to achieve sustainability and scale.

SPRING SEMESTER INTERN  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 
What we’re looking for:
Seeking an entrepreneurial, research-focused, and marketing intern who works independently and has experience/interest in serving children and families in Kansas City. Must thrive in start-up culture, be energized to build value from the ground-up, learn quickly, and communicate well across sectors. Must bring personality and perspective to work on complex issues while also being a great teammate.
 
Qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree or working towards a degree in a relevant field; master’s degree or recent graduates also encouraged. Deep commitment to understanding issues faced by residents in low-income, urban communities. Excellent research, writing, and social media skills. Kansas City residents preferred.
 
Compensation and time:
GreenLight Fund interns will be awarded a stipend of $3,360 paid out in four equal installments between February and May. Expected start date is late January (flexible start date), with the possibility of extension into the next semester. Likely workweek is approximately 20 hours with flexibility and opportunities for professional development.
 
Internships Responsibilities:
 
Research and Due Diligence

  • Research current, relevant Kansas City issues and priorities among low-income communities
  • Assist in the development of a local landscape analysis including primary and secondary research, compiling notes from meetings with local residents and service providers, and data reporting
  • Record, synthesize, and produce reports and briefs based on analysis
  • Conduct broad research on field trends and national context
 
Capacity Building and Administration
  • Prepare meetings materials for the advisory council
  • Assist with creating, editing, and disseminating communications across platforms
  • Assist with meeting and event logistics (signage, catering, etc.)
  • Create and manage the social media calendar, posting on various social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter
  • Analyze analytics to gauge the success of social media campaigns
 
Culture and Additional
  • Share additional talents and ideas for continuous improvement
  • Help create norms, standards, and brand locally
  • Identify other personal growth areas and integrate into the role
