Communications Coordinator

This is a part time position reporting to the Executive Director and working collaboratively with the entire Camp Encourage team. The position will allow for employee flexibility and hours per week will vary, depending on the season and organizational needs. Position may require some nights and weekends thus employee needs to be prepared for and enthusiastic about a non-traditional work schedule.

The mission of Camp Encourage is to provide youth with autism spectrum disorder meaningful experiences in which they build the knowledge, courage, and skills to be empowered participants in the community.

It is anticipated that the role will total roughly 500 total hours in 2022. Weekly, the average will be between eight and ten hours. Pay will start at $20 / hour (which is estimated to total $10,000 annually).

The primary responsibility of this role includes managing and maintaining Camp Encourage's social media presence. This includes designing branded content (graphics, photos, and videos), developing a content calendar, and ensuring a strong organizational presence on social media outlets.

Other roles may include:

  • Managing and maintaining online presence: providing website updates with support and guidance from the staff
  • Writing content for occasional press releases and website news / blogs
  • Creating occasional e-marketing campaigns
  • Securing and overseeing media coverage opportunities
  • Preparing employees for media appearances and interviews
  • Researching and implementing improved ways to reach potential campers, volunteers, and organizational participants

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Able to attend our camp sessions (or provide guidance to a trained volunteer to lead all aspects of social media from camp)
  • Prior experiences planning and managing all aspects of social media
  • Ability to pass criminal / registry background screening
  • Communicates clearly and effectively
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivated, able to self-initiate and work independently
  • Possesses knowledge of effective marketing strategies
  • Exhibits knowledge of nonprofit's mission, values, vision, and goals
  • Is a strong writer
  • Is detail-oriented
  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong comfort level using Google Suite
  • Is capable of thinking creatively and analytically
  • Manages time efficiently
  • Possesses solid problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with Camp Encourage
  • Prior experience in the nonprofit sector
  • Prior experience with WordPress
  • Prior experience with Mailchimp
  • Prior experience with Canva
  • Degree in related field
