The Missouri Organizing and Voter Engagement Collaborative (MOVE) will be working with grassroots voter engagement partners to drive collaborative digital, mail, radio, and other media strategies to shape the narrative environment for the August and November elections. We seek a strategic Communications Manager to support collaborative allies in their own communications while executing one overall strategic communications plan that is bigger than any one organization.
This individual will have an opportunity to work hand-in-hand with grassroots organizations to test and refine our shared narrative in real time, developing research vehicles to inform messaging. Working with a collaborative team, they will identify opportunities to go on offense to shift the narrative away from racialized and weaponized politics and to empower the voices and priorities of Missourians who are often ignored in dominant narrative: Black voters, immigrants, rural voters, poor people, etc. While candidate and ballot initiative campaigns will (ideally) deploy aligned narrative through their campaign communications, our hub team will drive an independent strategic communications campaign with organizing tools, digital, mail, radio, and earned media components. Support will be available from senior organizers, communicators, and campaigners in Missouri and across the country to support this role.
Position is currently funded through November 30, 2020.
Support organizations in taking ongoing narrative development and research work and turn it into action. This means understanding how the narrative works in different moments, with different messengers, and within different mediums. This is especially important for rapid response communications.
Work with each partner to develop communications plans for their tools that meet their unique strategic goals (ie online membership growth, support for a key candidate or campaign)
Support execution of those communications plans through tracking, training, and coaching.
Build out a collaborative communications calendar to ensure partners are amplifying shared priorities and not working at cross-purposes in their promotion strategies
Provide reports on the efficacy of individual organization efforts, as well as the collective reach of all strategies
The Communications Manager must be able to work with multiple stakeholders in a collaborative way. They must be resourceful in knowing how to pull together communications materials, speakers and events quickly. They must have experience operating in diverse environments and demonstrable cultural competency with core emphasis on authentic relationship building. They must be able to work and be accountable in a remote work setting.
An interest in Missouri politics and policy
Understanding electoral and issue campaigns, experience ideal
Understanding of grassroots organizing and movement building, experience ideal
Experience working in diverse environments, anti-racism training or work experience ideal
Monthly rate depends on experience, with floor at $5,000 per month. Benefits include healthcare and paid time off.
