Digital Communications Specialist

Come join us in reshaping our future!  We are seeking a creative digital communications champion who can share our story.  Primary responsibilities include website updates, infographics and print publications.  We are looking for a dynamic person who can switch projects and focus with ease, has an eagle eye for details and can easily multi-task between various projects. 

Summary of Position: The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for managing and developing the creative design and digital media along with collaborating with the KAPPAN editorial team for Alpha Delta Kappa to support the strategic direction of Alpha Delta Kappa.   

Employment Type: Full – Time, Exempt

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Owns the website, design and content; consistently updates and modifies the website.

  • In collaboration with the KAPPAN editorial team, coordinate, edit and prepare articles for the quarterly magazine. 

  • Collaborates to plan and build out content on webpages, making it compelling and easy to navigate.

  • Capture and share stories that reflect the Mission, Vision and Purpose of Alpha Delta Kappa.

  • Develop membership materials to support recruitment, recognition and retention of members, and revitalization of chapters.  

  • Write and develop content for publications, International News – email newsletter, social media posts and website.

  • Proofreads, writes and edits digital and print content.

  • Plans and coordinates the creation of digital content, website, videos, podcasts, etc.  

  • Manages and monitors Alpha Delta Kappa CONNECT by engaging members in relevant topics. Develops and responds to requests and posts. 

  • Supports office duties such as answering phone calls, preparing special mailings, and back up for data entry.  

  • Performs other duties as requested by the Executive Director. 
     

    Other Responsibilities:

  • Serves as staff liaison to assigned committees. 

  • Works collaboratively with peers and volunteers to add value to team projects and discussions. 

  • Carries out the Mission, Vision, and Culture Code of Alpha Delta Kappa.

  • Complies with all organizational policies while exploring opportunities to improve efficiency. 

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism or closely related field.   

  • Excellent communicator with a friendly, sincere and helpful problem-solving approach to building relationships.

  • Results-oriented with strong follow-up skills, strong organizational skills and attention to see the process from start to the end.  

  • Self- motivated, highly organized with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and hundreds of volunteers. 

  • Effectively utilize publication technology to accomplish tasks.

  • Editing experience.  

  • Willing and able to learn new software and technology systems.  

  • Ability to work outside your defined role when necessary to advance the mission of the organization.

  • Able to use technology such as Zoom, Google Meets, or Microsoft TEAMS to work virtually as requested with members, vendors, or staff. 

  • Travel as requested to support the International Convention.

    Kansas City, Missouri
    Office Hours are  8:30 – 4:30    Monday – Friday
