Director, Marketing & Communications

Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City seeks a talented, strategic marketer to serve as its director of marketing & communications. As the primary steward of the organization’s brand and messaging, this individual will oversee the content of the Jewish Federation website, our electronic communications portfolio and social media efforts, as well as all external communications and marketing materials.
The director will strategize around, lead and manage strategic marketing, including integrated campaigns, reporting of philanthropic impact and more, all in support of Jewish Federation’s financial resource development goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Strategizes with Jewish Federation leadership, staff and volunteers around marketing communications and public/community relations
  • Develops annual marketing communications plan to proactively lead Jewish Federation in a strategic manner
  • Develops—with input from financial resource development team—integrated marketing plan for community campaign (donors $499 and below), including direct mail, digital outreach and social campaigns
  • Manages marketing department, including budget and staff; develops and maintains internal marketing calendar
  • Manages media buying, media inquiries, public relations and all creative vendors
  • Staffs marketing committee, including setting agenda and scheduling and running meetings in conjunction with committee chair
  • Manages marketing projects from concept to completion with eyes on budget, timeline and brand compliance
  • Ensures that corporate sponsors are properly recognized in print and online
  • Manages and implements Federation’s Annual Meeting
Required Skills, Abilities & Characteristics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing communications vehicles, trends and strategies
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong emotional intelligence, communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to adapt communication style to various audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a leader and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated understanding of volunteer/professional dynamics
  • Capacity to manage and organize information confidentially
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and meet all deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in marketing, communication, public relations or equivalent relevant field
- 5+ years of marketing communications experience in a nonprofit or for-profit environment

- Proven track record of marketing leadership in a fundraising-oriented nonprofit organization or a for-profit environment
- Knowledge of the Jewish community, customs and traditions, including knowledge of Israel
- Understanding of, appreciation and passion for the mission of Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City
