Director of Membership and Communications
Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA) seeks a Director of Membership and Communications to join the senior leadership of its talented professional staff supporting KCMBA and its charitable arm (KCMBF) in their award-winning publications and programs in the greater Kansas City legal community.
Bachelor’s Degree (preferably with an emphasis in Journalism, Business, or Marketing) and background in non-profit management; magazine layout and production, public relations, communications, design, or marketing is desired. Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communication skills, comfort with communications via print, web, social media, including a keen eye for proofreading (AP Style), creativity, and the ability to excel in details, as well as with the big picture are required. Strong experience in project development, project management, and nimble problem solving skills will assist in success of the selected candidate. Strong knowledge of Microsoft products and the ability to adapt to other platforms is required. The successful candidate will exhibit superb customer service and strong people management skills. The ability to multitask and manage many projects at one time, keeping track of cyclical activities while taking on new or unanticipated work, fast-paced excellence and strong leadership abilities are desired. A successful background criminal and credit check is a prerequisite.
While KCMBA is the oldest and largest bar association in the greater Kansas City Community, it remains committed to improving its community by supporting its sister organization, KCMBF, along with many other charitable endeavors. KCMBF works to end domestic violence, provides free legal services to veterans and provides a legal education pipeline for diverse high school students in the Kansas City area.
KCMBA provides a healthy and happy work environment by offering ample paid holidays (including one week at the end of December), and additional paid time off time for staff appreciation. The staff is currently working remotely indefinitely due to COVID-19, but in normal times we also provide many free meals, a collaborative work environment with a free gym and free covered parking for staff. Due to COVID, the successful candidate will need to be flexible to onboard, and work from home (including remote staff management of direct reports), and transition to work at the office at an undetermined date in the future. Access to high-speed internet and basic computer equipment at home is required to support remote work.
The annual salary for this position starts at $50,000, with generous benefits, including: medical, vision and dental insurance, a flexible spending account, and short-term disability, life insurance (paid by KCMBA), paid time off includes vacation (5 days the first year), sick/personal time (8 days annually), paid holidays (about 17 paid days off each year, including the last week of the year), free onsite fitness center, free covered parking, profit-sharing plan (an annual contribution of between 3% and 10% of your salary – a minimum of 3%), 401(k) plan, and cafeteria plan.
