Marketing & Communications Officer

About the Organization
AcruxKC (www.AcruxKC.org), a 501(c)3 public charity, operates education, grantmaking, and healthcare access programs that contribute to the health and quality-of-life of individuals across the bi-state Kansas City region. AcruxKC’s flagship program, AccessKC (www.AccessKC.org), promotes health equity by eliminating barriers to basic health needs for area residents with low incomes.
 
About the Position
The Marketing & Communications Officer handles marketing and communications execution for AcruxKC and its flagship program, AccessKC, a rapidly growing initiative connecting low- and moderate-income bi-state area residents with access to basic health services. Reporting to the Executive Director, the individual in this role will help build visibility and name recognition for two distinct, mission-driven brands at a pivotal moment of programmatic expansion. The right candidate will play a profound role in shaping how the community sees and engages with AcruxKC and AccessKC, a dynamic program with a growing portfolio of healthcare access initiatives for working households, children, and other populations.
 
The ideal candidate is eager to use their skills and passion to do work that matters: establish a robust social media presence, help to connect vulnerable community members to life-changing care, showcase grant and scholarship investments, and so much more. They are highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, an excellent communicator, and committed to AcruxKC’s mission. Execution is at the heart of this role, with increasing opportunities to contribute to planning and strategy as you demonstrate your expertise.
 
Key Responsibilities
Content & Storytelling

  • Write and edit content for websites, newsletters, social media, and print and digital materials
  • Create compelling stories about program impact, partner organizations and providers, and program participants
  • Generate high quality, relevant graphics, visual assets, and short-form content (e.g., photos, reels)
  • Leverage AI tools to support development of content and graphics, research, and workflow efficiency, applying sound judgment and brand standards to all AI-assisted outputs
  • Maintain and update Squarespace websites, ensuring content remains current and accurate
Social Media & Digital
  • Own LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, including scheduling, posting, and engagement
  • Monitor analytics via Google Analytics and social platform; extract actionable insights
  • Develop creative, relevant social media content designed to increase reach, engagement, followers, and community awareness.
Campaign & Project Execution
  • Coordinate campaigns to promote AccessKC to residents and organizations and providers who serve them
  • Support outreach to partner agencies, community organizations, and media contacts
  • Manage tasks and timelines in Monday.com
  • Assist with mobile event promotion and communications logistics as needed
  • Represent AcruxKC and AccessKC at health fairs, community events, and meetings, distributing materials and engaging directly with individual and organizational attendees.
Brands & Materials
  • Build visibility and name recognition for AcruxKC and AccessKC through purposeful, consistent communications
  • Maintain consistent tone, messaging, and visual identity across both organizations
  • Monitor partner representation of agency and program brands and address misuse
  • Order, manage, and distribute printed marketing materials and logoed promotional items
 
Qualifications & Characteristics
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of hands-on marketing and communications experience, ideally in nonprofit, public health, social services, or community-focused settings
  • Demonstrated creative thinker who takes initiative on ideas and responds professionally to feedback
  • Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple projects without heavy oversight
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills with the ability to shift voice across audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Expertise communicating to audiences that include the general public, as well as social workers, healthcare providers, etc. required
Technical Skills
  • Responsible, skilled use of AI tools to enhance productivity while maintaining content quality, accuracy, and brand integrity
  • Ability to shoot and edit photos and short videos for social media and digital content required
  • Experience managing social media professionally (not just personally), with strong command of native platform tools including stories, reels, events, and analytics
  • Proficiency with Canva, Google Analytics, Monday.com, and Squarespace (similar tools) a plus
  • Familiarity with digital accessibility standards and a commitment to creating accessible content

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
  • Commitment to equity and genuine interest in serving underrepresented communities
  • Must have own vehicle, valid KS or MO Driver's License, current insurance, clean driving record
  • Candidates must live in the Kansas City metropolitan area. There is no relocation assistance for this position. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
Work Environment
  • Remote-flexible, with scheduled time in AcruxKC’s fully accessible co-working suite
  • Occasional evening/weekend work required for events, as well as occasional travel in the Kansas City region
  • This role uses standard office equipment; the position is required to talk, hear, stand, and walk, and to handle, feel and reach. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds
  • Smoke- and drug-free workplace
Work Schedule and Benefits
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with flexibility for events and meetings
  • The salary for this position is $58,000-$62,000, based on experience
