Audience and Digital Content Strategist
Kansas City PBS is seeking a newly created position, Audience and Digital Content Strategist. This position reports to the Managing Editor, Kansas City PBS, Flatland and 90.9 The Bridge, the Audience and Digital Content Strategist supports content generation, promotional efforts and brand awareness at Flatland with a specific focus on audience engagement and retention, digital outreach, and campaign coordination in the digital sphere (social media, news aggregation websites and additional media platforms). This role works with key stakeholders to promote multimedia content via social media and other digital media platforms and identify new opportunities for engagement and distribution to keep pace with a constantly changing media landscape. In addition to expanding the presence of Flatland online, this position will monitor media trends and will produce editorial content for the Flatland website as assigned by the Managing Editor.
SALARY RANGE: $44,000-$48,000

  • Produce editorial content for Flatland as assigned by the Managing Editor, Kansas City PBS, Flatland, 90.9 The Bridge.
  • Monitor editorial calendar and campaign timelines to ensure timely upload of materials to relevant social media platforms.
  • Identify opportunities for audience growth, partner engagement and promotional reach.
  • Work with staff reporters and freelance contributors to distribute content through social media channels.
  • Ensure that relevant Flatland content is present on the platforms used by each of the organization’s chosen target audiences.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Managing Editor, Kansas City PBS, Flatland, 90.9 The Bridge.
  • Create brand-appropriate content to post daily across Flatland social media channels.
  • Build and maintain a brand voice and tone across channels and platforms that is consistent with the content.
  • Engage with the community by responding to comments, answering questions and posting in various forums as appropriate.
  • Keep organized and accurate analytics for grants and station reporting as needed.
  • Research and experiment with new ways to build engagement through social media, remaining current with social media trends and working with the marketing department to identify new opportunities.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently across teams.
  • Strong editorial judgment about content and its accuracy, tone and organization.
  • Strong judgment about visuals and photography.
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Occasional work outside regular business hours.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with both internal and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and work collaboratively.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in communications, journalism or a related field. Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Experience growing a digital audience across multiple platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Trello or other project management tools.
