The Waldo Area Business Association (WABA) has been promoting a strong business network in the Waldo neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri since 1965. Waldo is one of Kansas City’s oldest and most distinctive neighborhoods which features incredible diversity in nearly every category. WABA works collaboratively with property owners, businesses, residents, and local governments to implement initiatives aimed at fostering a thriving community. WABA provides for the interests of hundreds of local businesses through support and advocacy and is looking for a talented candidate to join our team!

Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and experienced Community Engagement Coordinator to join our team. The “CEC” will be responsible for creating and assisting in the implementation of an aggressive business outreach strategy as well as working to continue to bring visibility to both our community and organization. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic individual with strong communication skills, community-building experience, and a commitment to driving positive change within our business association/district.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement strategy to foster meaningful connections and participation within the district.
  • Cultivate relationships with stakeholders including property owners, business owners, residents, community organizations, and local government officials.
  • Plan and execute community events, workshops, and forums to gather input, share information, and build consensus around WABA initiatives.
  • Collaborate with our Marketing Committee to develop materials and campaigns to promote WABA initiatives and engage the community.
  • Manage outreach efforts through various channels including social media, newsletters, website, and direct communication to ensure broad and inclusive participation.
  • Monitor and respond to community feedback and concerns, addressing issues in a timely and effective manner. 
  • Track and report on community engagement metrics and outcomes to assess effectiveness and inform future strategies.


  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, urban planning, community development, or related field.
  • Proven experience in community engagement, outreach, or related roles, preferably in a nonprofit, government, or urban development context.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and build consensus.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands.
  • Knowledge of urban planning principles, community development strategies, and local government processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, website management, and other digital communication tools. Specifically, we use GrowthZone, WordPress, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Passion for community building, with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed for events and meetings.

Pay Rate: $50,000-$55,000/year
