Kanbe’s Markets Sustainability and Volunteer Manager

Posted: 01/15/2023

Kanbe’s Markets, the organization: Kanbe’s Markets is delivering food justice, one neighborhood at a time.  Our core values are Community, Passion, Integrity, Collaboration and Cultivation.  Learn more at
Food Redirection, the program: In 2022, Kanbe’s redirected approximately 700,000 pounds of fresh produce that would otherwise make its way into landfills. We do this by intercepting excess produce from major wholesalers and distributing it through four channels 1) sending produce to our Healthy Corner Stores for sale, 2) donating produce to other nonprofits feeding people, 3) donating produce to organizations supporting animals and local farms, and 4) composting the remainder.  This effort is supported by a robust volunteer community; 1,250 unique volunteers contributed 6,600 hours in 2022.
