Youth Program Specialist

BACKGROUND

The Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council (INC) was organized in 1967 and re-organized in 1997 as a 501 (c)(3) organization with a mission to build a “clean, beautiful, safe, and thriving neighborhood.” INC represents approximately 6,100 residents and has become one of Kansas City, Missouri’s most dynamic examples of a strong resident-led organization. Youth development, community outreach, and community engagement is the cornerstone of the organization’s strategic planning and ability to implement over 100 community change initiatives to date. 
POSITION AND KEY RESPONSIBILITY
The position is a full-time, exempt position that reports directly to the Managing Director of Community Outreach and Engagement. The primary responsibilities are to develop Ivanhoe’s youth and family outreach and engagement strategies, programs, and activities. The position is the lead position on the youth programming team, which includes the Youth Program Coordinator and program volunteers.
DUTIES
Supervisory
  • Ensure that workers are properly trained for their specific roles
  • Assist with scheduling work hours and shifts
  • Helping the engagement team understand performance targets and goals
Youth and Family Outreach, Engagement and Recruitment
  • Oversee youth and family outreach and engagement strategies, programs and initiatives
  • Attend relevant neighborhood and community meetings
  • Produce and use various survey tools to determine the needs/interests of residents
  • Build strategic collaborations and partnerships with volunteers, community members, and other youth serving organizations
  • Work closely with families and children to connect them to needed resources
  • Identify and recruit members and leaders for the Youth and Family Committee; assist with building the capacity of committee
  • Work closely with quadrant and block leaders by providing support
Grant Development, Management and Evaluation
  • Assist in the grant writing process to identify and pursue funding resources for community outreach and community engagement program areas
  • Assist with program compliance including reporting, tracking and evaluating outcomes, overseeing and managing budgets
Administrative
  • Compile, prepare and submit monthly reports on activities, outputs and progress toward outcomes; measure and evaluate results
  • Responsible for ensuring that key data sources (i.e., authorization and waiver forms, surveys, assessments, attendance and sign in sheets, etc.) are maintained and collected
  • Assist with INC’s communications output by writing articles for the engagement section of the Ivanhoe Neighborhood News
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Associates degree or at least 2 years of related knowledge and experience in youth development, community outreach, engagement, and mobilization strategies
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships in culturally diverse, low-income neighborhood environments
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Creative, entrepreneurial, and solutions-oriented approaches
  • Must have properly licensed vehicle and valid driver’s license
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish

Salary Range - $30,000 - $49,999
