The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce is seeking a Content Director to join its marketing team. The Content Director will be the primary writer and editor for all things KC Chamber and reports to the Senior Vice President, Marketing. The writing for this position includes, but is not limited to:
  • Articles for electronic newsletters
  • Articles for digital magazine
  • Articles for membership directory
  • Scripts for speeches
  • Web copy
  • Social media posts
  • News releases
  • Video scripts
Responsibilities – The Content Director will handle day to day media relations, including drafting news releases and media advisories, pitching stories, fielding media inquiries, and assisting media on site at Chamber events. The Content Director must have solid news judgment and be flexible and adaptable to ever-changing deadlines.

The Content Director will identify good news stories among the KC Chamber’s membership and create digital, print, and promotional content to help share those stories.

The Content Director will work directly with professional videographers to interview subjects and participate in the editing process to ensure the final video product conveys the desired message.

The Content Director will take the lead on social media strategy and be responsible for content creation and posting where appropriate. This position will also create dynamic web copy and post to the KC Chamber’s web site at www.kcchamber.com.

The Content Director will proofread content and correspondence as needed when provided by Chamber staff. The Content Director will provide backup to VP Communications on media strategy, crisis communications and executive support.

Education and Experience – This position requires a journalism degree and a minimum of four years of relevant work experience. A thorough understanding of the regional political landscape and working knowledge of area elected officials and the political process is preferred. The ideal candidate will have an inquiring mind and be an expert storyteller…constantly seeking good news stories from our business membership. The Content Director will work with the KC Chamber’s marketing team, Chamber staff, Board leadership, Chamber members, media and the public every day. It is guaranteed that no two days on this job will be alike, as we’ll work together on community health, transportation, workforce, public policy, and more business and community growth initiatives. This position is an integral part of a marketing and events team that serves as an internal creative agency for the KC Chamber.
