Affordable Housing Case Manager
Metro Lutheran Ministry seeks an outgoing, client centered candidate for the position of Affordable Housing Case Manager. For 54 years, MLM has provided emergency and supportive services to low-income, homeless, and at-risk households in the greater Kansas City area. The Affordable Housing Case Manager is an integral part of the MLM team.
The Affordable Housing Case Manager will work directly with low-income, at-risk, and formerly homeless households living in low-income affordable housing in Jackson and Clay Counties in Missouri. The case manager provides supportive services and coordination of activities that support tenant individual and family households to maintain stable housing and access needed services. The qualified candidate will work directly with tenants to develop support plans, link them to vital community services such as health, job training, and counseling, advocate on behalf of tenants, provide mediation with property management, and provide ongoing case management and social supports that focus on long term housing stability and overall well-being using strength based, trauma informed methods.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday; 8:30am – 5:00pm; some weekends or evenings as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Case Manager shall possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate patience and kindness while working under pressure, delivering quality service. A positive attitude, being a hard worker, and a willingness to take on tasks that may pivot is vital. Attention to detail, and the ability to work with multiple local, state, and federal programming regulations and data systems is vital to the success of the incumbent candidate.
The Case Manager will support low-income, at-risk, and formerly homeless households residing in affordable supported housing, utilizing a strengths-based, trauma informed model, by performing the following:
• Assess needs to determine type and length of assistance utilizing progressive engagement strategies to support household in achieving individual service plan goals
• Advocate for participants with landlords and utility companies
• Establish and maintain landlord & property management relationships through outreach and advocacy
• Perform housing inspections as needed
• Provide client-centered, strengths-based case management, utilizing a low-barrier, trauma informed model
• Connect participants to appropriate community resources, such as financial assistance, mental health treatment, housing, employment, healthcare, and others as identified by need
• Collaborate with community partners to ensure that interventions and community support services are available and easily accessible
• Outreach and connect with community resources in Jackson and Clay Counties to recruit inkind donations to benefit clients served
• Outreach and connect with community resources in Jackson & Clay Counties to recruit volunteers for life-skills classes and community activities for Linwood Gardens & Brookwood at Antioch housing sites
• Plan and implement community activities and life-skills classes at Linwood Gardens in Jackson County and Brookwood at Antioch in Clay County
• Provide supportive services including case management, budget counseling, connection to mainstream benefits, and other necessary services, to support stability
• Facilitate connection to internal MLM programming, including employment & financial coaching, pantry, and other services
• Enter & maintain written and online HMIS & other database participant case files in accordance with program & funder requirements
• Accurately perform reporting and compliance duties in a timely fashion
• Attend internal agency & external community partner meetings as scheduled
• Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Social Work, Sociology, Behavioral Health, or Psychology preferred, but not required. Experience working with low income, homeless or at-risk households, or a combination of education and experience is preferred. Ability to work positively with a vulnerable and diverse client population, volunteers, and staff is required. Current KS/MO driver’s license and proof of insurance (must submit to driving record and criminal background check). Bi-lingual staffing is preferred.
This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. Benefits include 11 paid holidays, 20 days paid vacation (pro-rated to annual start date), 100% employer paid health, dental, vision, short and long term disability insurance, partial employer paid dependent insurance coverage, 403b with 100% match up to 3% of your salary, life insurance, and approved mileage reimbursement. Professional development training and CEUs offered on an ongoing basis. Office location will be split between Jackson County (Linwood Gardens) & Clay County (Brookwood at Antioch).
Salary Range: $40,000-$45,000, DOQ
