Bilingual Community Resource Advocate

Community Resource Advocate (CRA) will coordinate a wide variety of supportive services to victims and witnesses of crimes. CRA will assist victims and witnesses with navigating through the criminal justice system, coordinate volunteer activities, set-up meeting law enforcement, and related agencies; The Community Resource Advocate is given a variety of assignments subject to detailed and frequent review. Advocates work closely with their supervisor in resolving problems to meet the individual needs of victims, and their families. This position works closely with AdHoc’s President, Chief Operating Officer and Clinical Evaluator. This position is full time and also reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
 
Specific Duties:

  • Responds to client needs and facilitates client referral services including but not limited to: counseling services, safety planning to avoid further exposure to violence, protective relocation or shelter, property repair; funeral and burial arrangements; intervention services (i.e. bullying in schools, crime reporting); assist with applications to Victim of Crime Compensation Program and providing resources and referrals for ongoing support or services. 
  • Upon request and or direction form President or Supervisor, the CRA will organize or participate in community events, facilitate vigils, speak at public events.
  • Provide group facilitation using cognitive behavior intervention methods.
  • Organize community canvases and recruit and coordinate volunteers.
  • Per the President/Executive Director request and supervision CRA will participate in providing information to victims and witnesses concerning the procedures of the criminal justice system, juvenile justice system, and justice agencies; provides information on other judicial systems as necessary to meet the needs of the client. And attend court with victims.
  • On call 24hrs to respond to homicide scenes and hospitals following referrals and/or notification by supervisor.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Senior Staff Members when required for the smooth operation of AdHoc and/or its Administrative functions.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of: The laws and procedures of criminal justice agencies as they affect the responsibilities and rights of victims and witnesses of crimes; crisis intervention, experience and knowledge of accessing community resources.  

Ability to: Maintain effective working relationships with others; provide professional support to reduce trauma associated with being a victim or witness of a crime; communicate effectively in oral and written form; keep records and prepare statistical reports. 
 
Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred; in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social welfare, social/human services, or closely related field. 8-10yrs of work experience in criminal justice or social/human services field maybe substituted for education requirement. 
 
This position will be working with Spanish speaking population. Therefore, candidates that are bilingual in Spanish and English, written and oral is required for this position.
 
Hours: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm Monday through Friday. Some late evenings and weekends may be required.

Salary Range: $30,000 - 49,999
