Case Manager - Families First Prevention Services

Locations: Multiple positions in both Topeka, KS and Pittsburg, KS and will serve the surrounding areas.
Start Date: Positions will begin in July 2023
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

The Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) START is a family-centered, collaborative intervention for families with child protective services’ involvement and children 0-5 years of age, who are impacted by parental substance use. START is a voluntary program where families work with a case manager and family mentor to help parents achieve recovery and keep children in their home when safe and possible.

DCCCA is recruiting for FFPSA Case Managers to work with families where parental substance use is a concern to assist in the treatment and recovery process. They provide for the safety, stability and well-being of children and families by delivering and coordinating culturally competent case management services that are responsive to the unique needs of the family. Successful candidates place a high value on keeping families intact. We are looking for individuals that take initiative, manage multiple priorities, quickly gain trust and rapport, work well in a fast-paced environment, and complete work carefully and accurately. Essential Functions:

  • Provides for the safety, stability and well-being of children and families
  • Works as a dyad to coordinate and deliver timely access to intensive treatment and other intervention services
  • Delivers culturally competent, strengths-based case management services to children and families consistent with the evidence-based practice models
  • Decisions are made on guidelines provided by the supervisor, family preservation standard procedures and policies, evidence-based practice model and DCCCA organizational policies
  • Meets DCF timelines to connect with the family and facilitate the initial family meeting
  • Engages and works in partnership with families to complete assessments and develop the case plan
  • Meets with the family in the home weekly, monitoring the family's progress towards their case plan goals and meets monthly with each child individually to assess child's safety
  • Provides weekly home-based family skills training which may include: Nutrition, Hygiene, Household and Time Management, Home and Child Safety, Basic Parenting, Transportation, Problem Solving and Communication to assist parents in providing a safe, nurturing environment for children in their care
  • Prioritizes identified problems that require resolution, utilizes available resources, and arrives at decisions appropriate to the family
  • Completes and analyzes initial and on-going family assessments related to safety, stability and well-being, including mental health, substance abuse, education, emotional, social and physical well-being, parenting and parent-child relationships. Collects drug screens as necessary
  • Completes and submits timely court reports; Appears and testifies in court as required
  • Documents case information, including court reports, emails, and activities weekly
  • Responds promptly to family crisis situations, documents incidents and is available 24/7 to clients


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services-related field, required.
  • Prior work in behavioral health or children and family services, required.

Successful completion of post-offer background screening, reference checks, fingerprinting clearance, and drug screening is required. Records do not necessarily preclude someone from employment. Class C driver’s license with clear driving record, reliable personal transportation, and current automobile insurance, required. Approval by DCCCA’s auto insurance provider to drive vehicles on DCCCA business, required.
